Yeah I know, cheesy title. :D I've been part of this online community for about 9 months now and finally got to meet a fellow hoarder today. As you might suspect I'm talking about the one and only buZZsaw BRAD . I had been sitting on this opportunity to grab this downed Black Locust since August. It had blown over in tropical storm Isaias and rested comfortably off the ground, down an ATV trail maybe 75 feet into the woods. We met up, I ended up buying his Stihl MS170 and also a 20" bar with a couple chains to go on my 029 Super. I brought my hand truck and we worked the score together, and finished loading his truck up as dusk was settling in. Having worked side by side with him, I can vouch for his dedication and fortitude when he's in the grips of Locust Mania. It was great to put a plan into motion and work with another hoarder.

    - Finishing up as the daylight fades.

Here was the tree as it sat back in early October, about 14" DBH. Nice long straight trunk section with zero rot in the heart wood. Primo BL

Eric and i have been wanting to meet up since the locust mania outbreak started here in Connecticut last Summer (i think). He was close to procuring a big BL score in his hometown (45 minutes from me) that fell through. He had offered me some of it. He has mentioned this tree for a while. I offered him the bar and chains couple months back and put my 170 up for sale and offered that to him as well. We killed two birds with one stone today. Sign made a road trip again. IMG_3881.JPG I kept insisting he take some wood but didnt want any. With BL he didnt have to twist my arm. DBH turned out to be 16" (including bark) so half cord. IMG_3882.JPG IMG_3883.JPG
Eric it was great to finally meet you. It was fun working with a fellow BL maniac. Despite the little hike to get it roadside the tree was nicely propped off the ground. Some primo BL for sure! Hope you're not too tired at work!

Looks like you guys had a good time!

Is it just me or do people never look like how you pictured them when you have just read or heard them? I don’t meant any disrespect, I just get a picture in my mind and I’m usually way off. Lol

Let's see a mugshot Warner ! I know what you mean... I don't even think the picture of me looks like me LOL. Maybe that's because in my mind it's 20 years ago and I've still got a spring in my step...

Nope, definitely not just you. And usually I can't even really describe what I thought a person was going to look like, I just know that I was way off. Happens especially with people on the radio too.

No, Brad is keeping it safe for the time being. It was pretty neat to actually see it in person, all the signatures on it knowing the miles it's traveled.

I think I have spied a few locust logs in a pile at wallys tree services garage on rt31. I have had some sour interactions with Wally or I would be knocking on the door. Also have you seen the huge log pile that recently showed up on rt 31 near walker brook rd?

I asked one of wallies guys about firewood once up at the mile. He said they cut and split everything and sell it. That big pile they split a few years ago didnt seem to move much and it all looked short, might even be pine ???
