If you scrounge, that long bar might come in handy some day. When ya get a huge log it’s nice to be able to buck a round with one cut. The 55 Rancher is not too shabby!
It sure is. Still hard to believe but up until three years ago all i ever cut with was a 16" bar! Large oak kept coming my way and i took this as a sign. My first time using a 28" bar was like "holy chit" i felt like Paul Bunion and wanted to be on an episode of Ax Men!
Ran the 361 with the 18" bar it came with. First time ive done that. Chowed through some BL. Usually wears a 22" Carlton bar.
All I had was 70cc saws, so I bought an echo 490. It's great to have a 50cc saw for those "my back hurts " days and limbing. It's trying to make friends with the 372.
Smart move and great for the ol' back. When i bought my little MS170 (now sold) it took a little getting used to a saw that light in weight vs a 60cc saw. Once i did i loved it. Just replaced it with a Stihl MS201 rear handle. Nice to have options.
Updated family photo. Clockwise from top left. 024, 028, 261, 361, 460, 020, 201, 194T Whats next for the family? I have an 026 thats being revived. 70cc saw maybe? 038 magnum, 044/440/441?
Awsome Stihl collection Brad! I think your next saw should be an 066 or meebe the 661. I only have 1 stihl and I think it's a winner.
Thanks! That 661 is sweet. Ive thought about a big saw but honestly dont buck big wood that often. My 460 will on occasion wear a 36" bar and ill run full chisel, full skip chain and it does okay. 28" bar the usual. I know big trees are the norm in the PNW but not too much around here. Id go 500i before 661. Im REALLY tempted too.
Brad, o38mag is an overweight turd. I owned one once. The most disappointing 72cc’s ever. It’ll last forever because it doesn’t have enough power to hurt itself. Needed a .325 bar so I didn’t have to run the roller nose full time. $35 shipped to my door. And after getting many saws ported, this is the first one that came with a sticker. Hopefully I can run it this weekend.
365 special is kind of a sleeper. But I know better because I've ran one. And ported that's a ripper!
Come on BRAD , don't be scared. It won't hurt. Just think of the hours of fun you will have with another addition to the family. It will be like adopting a big brother to keep an eye on all the little Stihl brothers and sisters.
Ill need a bigger truck just for a family outing! Sometimes there's so much wood that i can barely fit a saw in the bed let alone two or three.
Ive had my 490 for 3 or 4 years now its great. Only issue Ive ever had is bucking stuff bigger than the bar chips got jammed in the sprocket area.
Freshly built Rattler 288xp on its first day out. XS266se and the 394xp there to keep it company. Cutting very old Oak thats been down a while.
Roof rack for the saws ; problem solved. That's the wonderful thing about the forums here. We are all here to help and solve problems that we run into on occasion.
