So here's one that you don't see every day. Yep, thats a porta potty on a dock that got away in the wind. Pushed up against the ice.

Because of transportation problems and freight costs, we bought at our only local store that carries appliances. campinspecter bought a Speed Queen commercial top loader washing machine and it works really well. I am very pleased with it when ever I use it. campinspecter usually does the laundry. A front loader wouldn't work in the designated place for the washer. My dryer is really old but I only use it about three times a year as we hang all our clothes to dry from racks in the basement next to the boiler room.

Frigidaire washer/dryer here. Traditional load on both.. I'd have to say they are over 25 years old.......

I guess we have to disagree on this one...as someone who repairs all his own stuff, I can tell you for a fact that top loaders are WAY more complicated than a front loader...or at least they were in the past...haven't messed with a top loader made in the last few years (due to not having one, not because they never need work)
We have also upgraded to front loader at work too...got tired of the old top loader eating expensive Carhartt coveralls...we do have have one employee that doesn't like the new washer, but he is one of these guys that doesn't like anything new, everything old school was better. He has been told more than once that if he would set the washer to the "bulky" setting, and stop packing it full like a broke college student trying to do 2 weeks worth of laundry in 1 load, it might actually work...:picard:

We also have the Samsung front loader and dryer. Very dependable for us. I like that little access filter door in the front. So easy to get to and empty. Mine fills up with pet hair.

    Made in Wisconsin, actually.

25 year warranty on these top loaders.

Also, my old washer, a top loader Maytag iirc was from the 80's. It came with the house in 2008. It died this past summer. It was replaced with a 90's model toploader that my mom, an ex real estate agent, got from a hike she that had to be removed and it sat in the pole shed for 10+ yrs. Hopefully it lasts as long as the last one did.

Yes, the design of the top loaders is more complicated, but I never had to do any work on any top loader machine. My old top loader went out last summer and I saw it was a major repair, aka not worth my time or money. Especially since I had access to a free barely used one at the cottage up north, just sitting in storage.

I repair everything I can as well, you know that. ;)

I had to replace a sensor or a switch in my gas dryer a few years ago. Not a fun job, but it's been solid. The part was like 10-20 bucks, but if I had a swear jar it would've been full after I finished the repair.;)

They demo'd a house on the island on my pond this fall, and are starting to rebuild now. The raft was tied up either at shore, or out at the island, just not well, and blew away in the high winds.

If it's still out there when the ice is actually thick enough to ice fish on the pond, that port-o-let island will be well used :)

Spent some time cleaning the basement this morning. I'd like to get my lathe and band saw down there.

I went out and cleaned up the pile of cherry and maple behind the barn and really topped off stack 7. Southwest wind was brisk this morning, so I stayed out of the woods.

I made a nice pot of chicken and noodle soup for lunch.

The big toms stopped by and one went up the steps.

image.jpg My old arctic cat jag has been very dependable running wise but it rides like a park bench. I really only use it for ice fishing. I should have left it alone. Oh well. I guess I’ll be parts hunting...

I've only had the one dryer - never had one in the first 33 years out on my own. Then my parents offered a washer/dryer for my housewarming gift. By buying as a set, I saved half the cost of the dryer. Plus, they were on sale anyway for the fall appliance sales. Just saying that although you may not "save" money up front, if your current dryer only lasts another year or two, you'll be paying a lot more.

I understand about freebies - A lot of my furniture I got off the side of the road or at the dump (they ain't pretty, or even in good shap, but they work). A couple of things I got off CL (my futon, some book cases, a tool box, etc). My desk was brought from my old house that was a BD gift in the mid 90's. My two dressers came with me from KS, I got them from my mother, who had gotten them included in a house she bought in 1976 (they were old when she got them,).
