Here's a wood burning fireplace insert in the fireplace. The open fireplace had glass doors and a brass faceplate. The wood rack was a heatilator that had a blower that sent air through the rack and out. It worked, but the insert really works... I'd think in the deep South, that any even halfway decent insert would do the trick. Our FP dimensions are about what you have.

Yawner - are you averse to posting pictures?
Besides being an informal rule here on FHC (“pics or it didn’t happen”), you might get more constructive feedback if members could see the area, as opposed to posting constant word pictures.

Just thinking outside the box here, but why not plan a little bit ahead and start the fire an hour before you go out there?

Yawner, here’s my wood stove in a fireplace. It could go back inside more but I placed it there so I could top load.

It will hit 80-90 degrees in that 14x20 room with three open doorways in a half hour from 62.

Running the blower will mean clothes coming off and a window opened.

Fireplaces are nice to look at. But they will cool a house off due to pulling cold air in from outside to replace the heated air going up the pipe.

A stove absorbs heat and radiates it out into a room quicker than an open fireplace.
An insert with blower would be the next choice after a freestanding stove.
