That is the only way to describe the oak i hoarded today and will finish up tomorrow. Got a call from the golf course. 2 oaks taken down. I drove over and picked out six 44long 20-24” wide logs. Had a few cut up by a guy to 16” lengths. Quartered them and loaded them up. Tomorrow we go back for three more pickups full. ABSOLUTE WOOD FLOOR QUALITY OAK. MY FAVORITE

Last picture is a bunch of sweet gum. Shame I won’t take it because of what a pin in the rump it is to hand split. Tons of it laying around

That's some good looking oak! Gotta love it when you get into RO like that, I can hear the pop of the maul just looking at it.

I have always despised sweetgum....I used to go out of my way to mark them for the cutter in thinning stands. However, I watched a vid the other day of a guy sawing a sweetgum on a woodmizer. I was surprised, and impressed, by the wood, it actually looked pretty good (it almost pains me to say it). The color of those cut ends makes me think that would make some good looking boards ...

I have read of some who make lumber out of sweetgum without there being a warping problem; some of it makes beautiful lumber. Oh, how I wish it were good firewood, wish it split well, because besides pine trees, it's probably the most prolific tree around here and they also grow fast and big.

The sweet gum is really awesome looking stuff. But I learned my lesson about trying to split it. Plus low BTU

Oh yeah, no doubt about the splitting. I too learned that lesson. And the overall "suck factor" as firewood. But then again, I guess it would beat a snowball....

Hate it when that happens! Those big heavy splits will do that! Hope it heals up quick!

The back didn’t go out from the wood. It was just a simple slip. Sitting still or lying down makes it worse. Working the wood feels good while I’m doing it

Nothing like red oak Splitting. The only gum ive encountered was black gum aka tupelo couple Falls ago. took one log and split it just to say ive CSS some. Never again.
