This man does nothing but make me look lazy. He splits and cuts wood pretty good too so let's make sure he stays around.
With some crummy weather, sinus crud and 7PM-7AM since Dec 28th, things have slowed down a little on the wood yard. We did get 2 drums 2yr+ oak chunks moved down to the house. We store them on an old woodrack we had on the back deck before we made the utility room. Split a few more shorty rounds and chunks, got those added to the big bin. It will be full before long. I'm getting 3 days off, hopefully we will be able to post some more productive pics. We have 3 truck loads (2 firewood, 1 cooking) and a small dump trailer load to work on.
Well, the 3 days off did work out. Made some great progress on the woodyard, along with spending time taking a grandson to the dentist and picking up some things for a nice seafood supper 1 night. Tuesday morning load we C/S/S after I got off work. We cut part of this load Tuesday afternoon and finished Wednesday after taking grandson to the dentist. Only had to go maybe 3 miles from home. Thursday, we had this load already in the shed, we had saved out 1 cord for a regular customer. He can only store 1 truckload at a time. He gets 3-4 loads a winter. After we dropped it off, we went to the next town over, they have a nice fish house. We got some Chesapeake Bay oysters and Apalachicola Bay FLA wild caught shrimp. Made oyster soup and shrimp boil with our neighbors Mike and Miz Jean and my MIL after we finished for the day. On the way home, we stopped by a friend's house that had a small maple tree for us. Got it split and stacked in the shed, then went to work on the load of cooking wood. Had to C/S/S pecan, cherry and hickory. Delivered it 12 miles from home. Friday, I just cleaned up the splitter, moved it to a new spot and got it set up to start on a trailer load. Saturday morning after work, my neighbor, Mike came over. We got busy on the trailer, got a little more to go.
I finally upgraded the bar on the MS180 to a 14" .050 gauge, this allows me to use a regular chain, not green safety chain. Sure cuts even better now. That's a 12-13" oak
Tuesday was wet from the rain, but the rest were nice cool days. I should have 2 days off this coming week...
Dealer just swapped it out, put the chain tensioner on the new bar. It's the same pitch, just bigger gauge. The wood on the trailer is decent, he is getting limb and smaller whole rounds too. I told him he was getting the whole tree. I try to keep them happy. I'm sure your customers are getting the best too. You don't do slouchy work......
After delivering the last trailer load, we got a call from a customer, they were needing a load soon. Had a chilly morning start about 8AM after night shift. Got the load on the truck before 11:30, hickory and oak. Had 2 days off so Wednesday afternoon started helping our friend Mike with a big white oak... Helping out my neighbor, Mike After finishing up that tree on Thursday, we stopped by another site on the way home and scored another load of oak. It was a wet area, glad we got it before the rain the next day.
Guess it's time to update the thread and see what happened in February. Firewood, tractor and shed upgrades, and pets... A couple rainy days I built another section of shelves, made this the saw chain section Then we had 3 friendly kitties show up We kept busy cutting loads of wood, did a couple loads for a OWB 1 of the big gnarly pieces we added to the load, lot of noodling on that one. Then we had just nice firewood loads This was a full load, some forgot to before we home... We have been saving $$ to do much needed upgrades to the FEL on the 'Bota. Changing it over to QA system. Got a good deal on forks and grapple Had to add 3rd function valve to the loader. Waiting on adapter plate for the tractor, so it will hook up. Should be here this week. Saturday morning, we noodled some big gum rounds we had, gave them to a friend to make bowls. Finished up the big bin of shorts, nuggets and uglies. Many thanks to buZZsaw BRAD for the idea of stacking the front with shorts and piling the uglies/ nuggets behind. Saves 2 pallets, 4 T-posts and will be easy to get wood from in a couple years. We had 1 BIG round about 11-12" thick and several smaller cutoffs. Made another big bin this weekend. These splits all came from the BIG round, over 80, I think. And we are gonna try out some new mix oil...should make about 50 gals of 40:1 for the XS saws
Looking good my friend. Glad that bin idea worked out. I always hated having to bend into them to unload. Came up with that idea a couple years ago. Its amazing how many splits come from big rounds. I think i counted close to 60 on the oak i split today. I like the saw tree too, although it looks like there is room for another Stihl...or two!
It probably won't help, I asked her to remind me on the way to deliver it,, it is only 2 1/2-3 miles from home...
yep, there is the XS029BB and Husky 55 in the cases I could put on there. Have to cut more slots. Although a nice XS661 would be SWEET sitting on the bottom...
