My 271 was pretty decent, I realize its a homeowner saw, but works well. The 311 worked pretty well but seems very finicky. Won’t start if it’s too hot, won’t want to stay running if the air filter is slightly dirty, it vibrated out one of the bolts, the list goes on. I swear it’s like a needy woman. Dealer just shrugs and says yep, all normal. Not super happy. My buddy’s 440 is great, but willing to try something different. Actually excited... another buddy runs a rancher 550 that he loves. Ran it a few times and enjoyed it.

Dang, brother, glad that wasn't worse. Looks like you got it patched up, way to hang in there. I would probably been done for the day.
One cold day last year, my little MIL was helping us, piece of oak popped off and smacked her hand, tearing off some skin, next thing I knew, she was laying on the ground, about passed out.

Nothing like having a reliable saw when you want to cut wood especially when you cut as much as we do. Best of luck with whatever you get.
    Hoard on and work safe!

One of my customers has 4 of these beats the hell out of them only problem with them was the 2 bottom muffler bolts coming loose the one saw needed a clutch but it has been in tree service use for almost 2 years and they are used by the ground crew to cut firewood on off days also and he does not hire human resources he hires Human Remains!! so I am really impressed with this model so far JB

Older stihls were better the 311 was not one of there better saws Stihl really ruined their 3 series saws one fence installer I have as a customer had 361's and 391's and they had a lot of clutch problems oiler problems among other issues keep in mind most people working for him are not experienced saw users but they are cutting fence boards and ripping the taper on post and rail fence with these saws he switched to jonsered 2172 saws and had a lot less issues all his saws have 20"bars I just have seen stihls quality come down a lot in the last few years overall I have a whole mix of brands in my fleet so I am not real brand loyal I like features on all different saws I just go by the repairs I see coming through the door JB
