Im en route to a job this afternoon when this almost causes an accident. Right next to the road. Tree service taking a bunch on trees down in a yard. Many are black locust! Lots of wood on the ground already. Talked to the tree guy and said i could take wood but need to get it ASAP. He offered to drop at my place but i cant take log length and want to cut to my specs. One huge BL he had to take down yet. Tree at least 20"+ DBH. Came back the same way after my job and stopped. Didnt like to see this He needed to clear some wood to work and it was going to a neighbor nearby. He was taking down the big tree. Promised me all the wood from it and the BL still on the ground. Going B2TW tomorrow cutting and moving wood. I think the guy had has doubts as he is responsible for cleaning up the wood and getting it out of their. An average hoarder will take a PU full and smaller logs, BUT im not your average hoarder. Im hoping to get three full loads pulled tomorrow and finish up Sunday. Im saying two cords, but will see what he has for me. Stay tuned FHC!
Tree service guy having doubts? He doesn't know you and BL too well. GREAT SCORE!! I'm not use to seeing so much BL with the bark intact. I imagine some of the rounds from the 20"dBh going to have some weight.
Man, thats a good deal! I'm not even sure if there's any locust near me, never heard or seen it around Would love to try it Get as much as you can while you can get it, all these awesome scores could dry up and your stuck with stuff like willow or cottonwood!
As always, nice score! I think with this in the works, you and jo191145 might be neck to neck for having the largest Locust hoards in the northeast
With that last triaxle load he got it put him way up. I was in contact with him last month and he isnt doing much in the way of wood for a while.
I would imagine so. With what he has on hand I figure he wouldn't need to scrounge again for a couple years and even then he'd still be current with his 5 year plan
I’m planning to mess with a saw or two and maybe do some cutting over the weekend anyway. And I’ve never had a chance to work with BL, but I don’t think I can get there in time to be much help! Thanks for the invite
Actually big BL rounds are not as heavy as you would think. Surprised me the first time i lifted them. I will section big rounds just for ease of handling.
I have to meet with him this morning and see. He was going to make a log deck with his little bobcat. It was just one guy and a woman (maybe his wife) working there. I hard a hard time understanding his broken English. Stay tuned...pics to come later. Thats if i have enough energy left to post them!
I'm burning some black locust this year. I'm finding out it throws some good heat. I used to think there was no locust in my area, but in a town 35 miles northwest of me there is black locust in almost every yard. I bought this load at a reasonable price from some people who were moving. It's worth it to have some good hardwood to mix in with the conifers.
