Have some Eastern red cedar rounds i want to slice cookies from. Any recommendations for thickness? Maybe roughly 12" diameter.
I cut several at 3" years ago for the Wife, family, and friends to put in their closets and they have never cracked and seem to be holding up well, but they weren't as green when I cut them as yours looks to be.
Most cookies will split easily unless you coat them so they dry slower 2 inches is usually minimum to keep them from being to fragile I have to cut locust cookies random diameters for a customer on a regular basis he lays them on a bed of screenings and makes walkways out of them they are cut 2 inches and he sweeps cypress mulch into the voids between them JB
I just cut some hornbeam cookies from a tree I just cut down. I’d say they are around 1 1/4+ thick. Time will tell.
Definitely getcha some Anchorseal if you are serious and don’t want them to split out. Coat liberally right after cutting.
Sometimes basements aren't too dry , are a more stable environment and don't have the extremes of dry and humid that outdoors can endure which can exacerbate cracking . Sometimes just well out of the sun is enough, too.
