I don’t watch buckin regularly, he’s a bit quirky and I’ve watched him go down a rabbit hole I disagreed w/, and that’s ok, to each his own. What you can’t deny is the guys experience and talent as a faller. He does drag the file backwards in contact but it’s usually very lightly. So he gets 1/2 a pass for it, lol.

Yeah, I always take him doing that like watching an experienced welder close their eyes for a quick tack weld. You know it's not right, but his experience permits him certain relaxations of protocol.

That was kinda funny, watching him thrash that chain & file was a bit hard to take though. I've seen plenty of old timers drag a file back lightly too & one told me it was simply quicker than dropping it back in place. I was taught not to do that, but he could sharpen way faster than me & his chains cut well every time.

Ditto. That first 10 seconds was like finger nails on a chalkboard. I couldn’t take it.

I have not watched the whole video but I wondered was the guy truly serious and he added the text onscreen after everybody started telling him what he an idiot he is. I didn't listen to his audio, I don't know what he's saying.

I did listen to the audio and without the text screen you would completely think he was serious. Maybe your right though. Maybe he is trying to make it out to be a joke.

Let’s keep in mind, moving a file backwards on a 8 dollar disposable item isn’t quite the same as running a Ferrari engine without oil.

I bought all the different things including that tool in the video, to sharpen on my own. Never got the knack.

I bought three chains for each saw, and have a guy at work sharpen them. He is third generation small engine shop owner with atop end sharper.

I never touch my chain to freshen up or anything. He knows I haven’t cobbled up something he has to try to undo. He also won’t accept money for it.

Wow, you have a dream deal there! I'd buy him a steak dinner from time to time, lol. How dull do you get your chains before you swap to another one? If I were to use a sharpening service and never sharpen a chain like your deal, that is what I would want to determine.

Yawner He feels some gratitude for a promotion he received. But absolutely, I try to slide a Texas Roadhouse gift card to him.

His grandfather ran the shop, and grandma was the chain sharpener, back in the day.

I run them until the chips get small. Figure if I overdo that, it may may a challenge to sharpen. I leave him my box of chains about three times a year.
