Pine, CO. How fitting! Anyone watch "The Patriot" series on Amazon video? There's one line that really caught my attention - something like "It's all about how to transport something from A to B" and how all kinds of things can go wrong. Hahahaha. Getting wood from nature to the stove.....not so easy sometimes. That's a fantastic, hilarious series btw. Non stop laughter.
They don't stack well, I don't have room to keep them for fire pit use as I have plenty for that already, and splitting by hand I guess I prefer to spoil myself if the option is there..... Not that I need PERFECT splits but I'd prefer 16". I still spend quite a bit of time trimming the rounds that are too long. Also I don't to waste time organizing smaller limbs and stuff as I'd rather just deal with a nice sized round instead. If someone is willing to take them,. Happy to give it to them. I always give them some nice pieces as well.
I have donation piles as well. Maple for some old folks down the road and miscellaneous for the wife's fire pit.
Trying also to share the love of firewood. I have no problem if people come hang out and split and take wood. I also understand if they'd prefer to take the rounds and split at home which is what two neighbors do. I'd rather do that as well if I were in their shoes.
All of the oddball wood - chips and chunks off the firewood as it's cut up and even parts of tree stumps get tossed into a small pallet shed. I can't get over how fast they dry, but 3 slatted sides and the open front lets plenty of air circulation happen. By Spring, on those days when it's 70° outside and the opened windows aren't helping warm up the house fast enough, I'll bring in a few 10 gallon plastic totes and fire up the Resolute. We too have a donate pile. Shorts primarily. Uglies and twisties go inside the holzen, or stacked in the middle of three row stacks. Some.of those knotty pieces are hard as stone. The shorts go to friends who have teeny wood stoves. I suppose I'll load the Jotul with those shorts running n/s one day. Last winter though, a friend burned a cord or better of shorts. So that's my out when I accidentally cut a log too long, it becomes 2 shorts....totally intentional!! Sca
