Got an automated call from the power company this afternoon. Crews are on standby with some coming from out of state to deal with the potential carnage. 50-60MPH wind gusts forecasted in southern New England for the Christmas holiday, along with heavy rain. Looks to me like more opportunities for scrounging blow downs on the horizon :) Given the events of the entire year, it's only fitting we have a stormy Christmas with threats of widespread power outages.

Yup unfortunately we have a boiler so electricity is kinda important. The temps they are saying we won’t really need heat but windy and wet probably want some.

That is the one hang up that has stopped me from looking harder at a boiler.

Yikes. We were spared during the last windstorm thankfully. For sure it's been an intense year for storms. Back in August when Isaias came through, my backyard got rearranged pretty drastically when a few large trees came down. I've since cleared most of it but what I'm worried about now is my front yard. There is one large red oak in close proximity that has the potential to flatten my house.

If you ever decided you wanted to add a wood boiler. This will solve that problem. I have a generator (5500W, I think) that is big enough and wired to run boiler, circulation pumps, well pump, and refrigerators. So you have the essentials covered. Probably would cost about $1600-$1800 total for genny, switching, outlet, plugs, wire, etc. Plug it in, turn switch from LINE to GENERATOR, start it up and good to go.
