Where's the 500i ?

Scott is a good friend of mine too. He’s comparing it to the 462, which is a little faster with a shorter bar. 72ish cc. 500 is 79cc

 

Hotsaws101 described it as in the top 3 of best running saws out of the box, so it’s subjective.

 

I've been wanting one of these for a while too but haven't looked too hard since I knew there weren't many in the wild and didn't want to pay a limited supply premium. Today I did shoot a text to the owner of my shop who said he will finally be able to order some next month. We texted back and fourth a bit and he was surprised that so many are reported in the wild here. He said he's had zero allocation to order since they were released and it's a real hardship on the smaller volume shops not being able to get some in. They are already struggling to build their businesses and the big guys who are established get all the hot new products first. It was the same when the Echo backpack 8010 came out. (He carries Husqvarna, Stihl, and Echo.) I'm in no hurry so I can wait for him to get his supply but I'm sure he will loose business from some guys who are willing to drive or pay shipping to have one.

not subjective when one can put a stopwatch to it and replicate it over and over with the only variable being the powerhead.

 

Well, I never considered Coastal Farm and Ranch to be “The Wild”, but they had one sitting on the shelf, right next to a 661

Of Course you guy back East wouldn’t be interested in it, it had a Full Wrap Handle and 32” B&C


Meh, I already have the 562XP on the shelf across from it, and the 372XP and 372XPW are close enough that the 572XP, that it didn’t come home with me either

That's how we are set up for small saws right now. T540XP II for me and T540i XP for the bride. The battery unit works so much better than expected that I was thinking of selling the gasser 540 but for the life of me, I can't get the battery 540 away from her!

 

Theres a few members here that only run battery saws. I have a Dewalt 20v pole saw that works okay.
The thought of Ms. buZZsaw using a chain saw, or any other power tool, scares me.

 

I married a country girl for sure Brad. She came with flannel and work boots as standard equipment. Her second favorite tool is our Bearcat Chipper.

 

Thats great. Sounds like a wonderful partnership! Just make sure she doesnt go Richard Crafts on you! What part of Western Mass you call home? My ex's grandparents had a really nice place in Cheshire.

 

We are in a tiny town outside Westfield. They call our area the foothills of the Berkshires.

We built last year and are now making trails and clearing down the hill for a view. The chipper comes in very handy for both. Not only does it keep brush piles from stacking up everywhere but the chips fill low spots or around rocks in the trail making it smoother for the ATVs, implements, and trailer to pass.

 

I forget how "big" Mass is compared to Conn. and all of Mass North of us is considered Western Mass.

Well, I got inspired today and asked around. A good buddy jumped on my 562XP so it looks like a 500i is in my future. I told him that if I sold it to him today, one of the massive red oaks that line my driveway will fall across it tomorrow. So, I said I needed to keep it on hand in case of emergency but it's his as soon as my dealer can get one in. Since it's replacing a 20 incher, I'll likely get it with two bar sizes. 20" for average stuff and a long bar for the occasional big stuff I plan to drop and buck. What do you guys think? 28"?

ought to be a real ripper with 20”. I believe the 28” is standard issue on the 500.

 

Ok, makes sense. I was thinking those two would be my combo and that will likely be the case.

 

28" is the norm for the 500 from what ive seen. My Stihl MS460 (77cc) normally wears a 28" bar but also have 20" and 36" for it as well.

We love pics of anything wood related. Current score/cutting, splits, splitters, axes, stacks, sheds etc. Well you get the idea. I always enjoy seeing what others are working on and how they do it.
