Aw yeah my buddy who lives behind me on the next block sent me a text the other day saying that the guys next door were getting some pine and spruce cut down.......I told him to ask for the wood..........and then I said "Who is the tree service???"

And it turns out it's MY buddy who has given me the most wood hahahahaha. My neighbor buddy - who got a dumptruck full of black locust from the same guy - was like "Yeah, he kind of looked familiar!"

    I was like "YOU DOPE!"

He brought some pine yesterday and then a half a truckload of spruce today. Not too much, but I'm happy to get some. He left a bunch of pine for my buddy since it was easier to roll it over the property line vs loading the truck.

Look at how these two rounds of pine split. I've never seen such twists before. Looks awesome I think.

Had to whip out ye ol' wedge and ye ol' sledge for these bad boys. These were sopping wet inside.

Looks nice! I got a lot of spruce and the biggest thing I learned with hand splitting is to never split across a knot. Go with the knot or in between the knot.
That stuff will burn nice once it dries though. I like having some to mix in with my other stuff. Smells good too.

I love that inner spiral core. That almost looks carved.

Nice snag! Wet pine can be pain in the butt to split. Dry pine usually splits really easy though. I usually let it season before I split it. You got a good workout though!

Thanks! Yeah I only split those two rounds and was POOPED!

Yeah I don't really have the room to store rounds so I split 'em when I get 'em.....one way or another, they are getting c/s/s asap!

Yep, I certainly split around the knots. All the pieces I got were pretty damm knotty. They were dumped on top of a pile of black locust I didn't get a chance to split before the snow came.......I might have to whip out the ol' splitter for the pine/spruce.

I also was enjoying mixing my dry spruce in with the locust. Does a great job of getting the fire going in combination with my spruce kindling.

When I grabbed the first round of pine to move it, my hands got all sticky and I immediately stuck it right in my nose and inhaled for 10 seconds. Love that smell of fresh pine/spruce sap!

Yep, the fireplace surround has two mesh magnetic doors so when closed it's pretty safe........And then I also have a secondary bi fold screen that I put when I have the doors open. Obviously you get a lot more heat with no screens. The other day I was sitting at the table and a gigantic piece flew out of the fireplace and hit me on the shoulder and split into two!!!!

I always remember embers popping out of the stove as a kid. I thought my dad was legitimately a super hero - he’d pick up the red hot embers in his bare hand and toss them back in.
