    Hi folks,

I'm in Atlanta and have a Georgia Power easement across my backyard that they cut every 3 to 4 years. They just came through last week and cut the brush to the ground and also cut some branches and trees away from the power lines. What's left is mostly small sticks but there are some small branches that' I can gather and cut and use as chunks or kindling plus a couple of 10" or so diameter logs. I just need to ID them before I go through the trouble of gathering. I suspect the redish peeling bark ones may be Crepe Myrtle as I have a couple in my backyard. Ideas?

    Thanks in advance. [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]

The pic that includes your hand looks like holly. I’d say it’s all good to burn.

Thanks a lot for the quick response.

Going to have two borrow or buy a chain saw to tackle those long branch logs.

Some of your find looks def to be crapemyrtle. That wood is about as dense a wood as I have seen. I have some from last year that I found at the dump. I will try to remember to split some and get a moisture reading. It should make good firewood as it is so dense.

Yeah, you might as well pick up two while you're at it and save yourself some gas money. You'll want that for the saws.

One of many I suppose slippery slopes...

    1st coffee machine, 1st bbq smoker...etc

At any rate went back out and started gathering. Those thicker logs are about 3 feet long and 8 to 10 inches in diameter.

Also got a better pic of that long section. I estimate it to be about 24 feet long and about 8-10 inches in diameter.

Great day to be outdoors in Atlanta. [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Big logs are definitely red oak of some sort.

Some of the members here do sell some of their old saws so keep a watch out for that. Also might want to get some chaps. Save an ER visit for my husband.
