Rarely will you see me have a PU full of longer length logs, usually they're bucked to my my standard 16". Being smaller sized it was logistically easier to load the locust i cut on Friday in 8' pieces. I prefer to buck on site then load. Load of wood from Friday. Normally ill just drop them on the ground and prop on a round to buck when home. Works okay for a few but not a PU full. Got creative with an old wood ladder ive been meaning to cut up and burn outside in the pit. Propped it on a couple saw horses and put the lengths on top a few at a time to buck. Worked pretty good. A few bigger 4' chunks i bucked on the ground. A little FHC backyard ingenuity. If i had a permanent processing area id make a nice sawbuck/sawhorse, but i make do/improvise when needed. I always wanted to get up in the bucking world...not exactly what i had in mind.
It appears you have got up in the bucking world! Bet your back is thanking you! Looks like it worked well for you. We’re the lengths hefty getting them into the truck?
They were. Even harder getting them off, plus it rained good here yesterday and they were slippery yet. Any other wood idve left it. Dang locust mania! Back was thanking me!
The wood that I am currently burning was a lot of 15” and smaller trees. I cleared a lot for a friend to build a house on. He wanted it clear ASAP, so we brought home a lot of 8’ lengths. That was quite he score. Im not used to seeing you buck smaller wood. How much did you end up getting out of their cordwise?
That's an interesting contraption. I've had a Logosol Smart-Holder saw horse for about nine years and have used it a lot for smaller logs. Thankfully I have the tractor with grapple for the large stuff now. Still, that Forest Master is a neat idea. Smart Holder | LOGOSOL - YouTube
I believe it was about 4.5-5 cord. Lot of it was SBH. It’s damm fine firewood! The guy I bought it from had one like you posted too. It was an toss up, and the chain style won.
Good choice, you'll get a lot more out of the chain style. The Logosol will only allow up to a 9" log and I've actually tweaked the upright from using it with heavy logs over the years. Still works great but had the Forest Master been available back then, I probably would have purchased that instead. The good thing about the Logosol is that it folds up to almost nothing so is easy to haul/store.
Nice! I have an old fiberglass extension ladder I don't ever use just lying next to the garage. Seeing as I have in inbound load of 8' beech logs I might try something similar....except a 15" dbh 8' log of beech is pretty damm heavy....
May not work good with fiberglass as the saw does nick the rails. Yeah a log that big you probably wont be able to lift up onto it...unless you want a hernia for Christmas
I've got one of these that I'm either going to sell or put up as a door prize at a GTG once the Covid bug is under control. They're pretty cool. I bought it for a special job and no longer need it.
