Welcome to FHC. You'll like it here. We Like beer, dogs and pics. Lots of pics. We have a lot of knowledgeable people here who are willing to share. If you go top left and next to the forum are 3 lines. If you click on that you can find the resource page. In there you will find a BTU chart. That will give you drying time for your wood. We like to burn wood under 20%.
Wow, thanks for all the replies. Fittingly, a neighbor heard about my new-found love of free logs and mentioned he had some under his deck from when they bought the house a few years ago. It weighs almost nothing, split reasonably easy, and had a orange-ish color to the wood once split. The bark seemed to have a diamondy pattern so I was thinking maybe ash, but don't really know. 20201204_114904.jpg 20201203_110050.jpg 20201203_110058.jpg
Welcome aboard Chauncey Wood doesn't look like ash to me. Bark doesn't seem right, and growth rings are huge. BTW.. it's easier on us if you post the pics in the post by uploading and inserting as thumbnails. There's an upload file button that'll lead you through the process. Need more info.. just ask
Thanks, it's been a few years since I was active on any forum and those finer details were forgotten. I had a small window to get that posted before work and the kids took over so I made a compromise. I'll get some pics of "my" hickory tree correctly for practice later today
Hey, hey, those two box elders I cut down and split in the spring heated my house all fall. I'm through it all now and am into the hardwood again. It serves it's limited purpose.
