Boys and I went for a short trip up in the mountains. Left the house on the machines, few miles of banging in the ditch we were at the trail. Both were finding excuses of why the did not want to go. Few minutes before the whole family was supposed to go, I was warming the 800r Summit up and motor locked up. Some quick shots when we stopped. When we got home all they could talk about is how much fun it was.
800r, is that a ptek or etec motor? How many miles on it? Those ptek motors get a lot of dry crank bearings and they lock up. Those motors are also not known to go more than 5k without lunching something, top ends are issues too on those. Both the etec and ptek 800 doos use isoflex grease in the crank bearings and need them to be repacked more often than one would think. These are not typical 2 strokes that get oiled by the oil injection pump. Several guys that have doo 800's repack the isoflex grease every Fall so they don't have issues. Have you ever done that or had it done?
That sux. That's much lower mileage than they typically squeak a crank bearings at. Hopefully it's a cheap easy fix. A new set of pistons and rings might be the cheapest fix. Fingers crossed...
ouch! my buddy had a 800 skizoom blow up while we were in Maine riding a few years ago. luckily we were on our last day and it was only a few miles from base camp on our way back. (this was his first year after switching to a doo (from polaris). he bragged the doo up for months about their "superior engineering" I didn't bust him...much...)
I can rotate the clutch a bit then it stops, then back the other way. Could be a piston skirt or crankshaft both know issues.
May mess with it tomorrow, but really want to go ride instead, no of my buddies want to go ride. Might drag my kids along to ride.
I’m so jealous! Here in upstate NY we have quite a few winters with not enough snow to ride. I’m hoping we get enough this winter. I hope your sled isn’t too big of a deal to repair.
Definitely jealous. We haven't had any real snow yet and none in the foreseeable future. May be a bad year for sledding. I've got great riding right from my front door but need Mother Nature to cooperate. Oh well, I can always look at pictures from previous years...
I know a guy that’s got a 91, 95 and old yella (1987) at family camp all ski doo all run. Well until kids hit something.
Old is the key word there. These new sleds are running so little oil these days to make the emissions better. It ain't working out very well... Imo, adding oil to the gas as well as the injection pump reservoir would save a lot of motors. Emissions be dammed. Oil is cheap! Well...kinda...
I use to enjoy sleds also. To expensive right now and dont no if I could handle getting beat up on one anymore.
