We're having a perimeter drain installed around some of the outside wall of the basement; but on the inside of the basement. It helps prevent leaky floors by capturing the water from the walls and diverts it into a drain system.....much like gutters on the eaves of a house. This is then directed to the sump pump.

They should be here wed morning. The day was spent removing shelves, washer, dryer, laundry sink, paint rack, table saw, wood rack, heavy bag, assorted totes of Christmas decorations away and out of the area for the work to be performed.

Also, I built a sauna with one wall where the work will be done, so I had to remove the benches and finished wall; including studs and sill plates. It is an indoor sauna as the days of this guy running out into the snow are long gone!

As I understand it, it is pretty much this product. There is an intentional gap between the wall for the water to drain into the "gutter".

One of our old customers had something similar installed. He was pretty happy with it.

We have a very old house with some rock wall foundation and a area cut out on the outside for water to run . It goes into what looks like a well in my basement with a wood cover on it.. I no this sounds crazy..

Does it have a pump in it? Maybe it just drains out by itself? A "french drain" .

My wife’s parents home has the same idea. They built the house in the early 60s but her dad was old school. They live in Sherman. Wife said it was “emergency water” when the power was out and the well pump didn’t pump.

Yeah, over the years buildings just tend to settle. The ground work; that is, laying the foundation for building; is just so important that no short cuts should ever be taken!

Yea something like that. I would not drink anything out of it though. I’ve seen the inside of it.

I’ve heard old timers talk about keeping milk cold in a basement cistern

Yes, but most times it was outdoors rather than in a basement. Dig hole, add some stone, insert large crock, make a good cover and it works quite well...until winter or unusually wet weather. But winter poses no big problem for refrigeration. Wet can.

The grey water from my clothes washer goes to something similar but more rednecked. Either way WWW took the water from away from the part of the house with wood foundation that termites moved into (I know! Termites are unheard of out here yet they are in many houses on my road :loco: . For Real, termite inspection not required for home inspections here, there are none. Except the peninsula I live on.

Had one of those done before I bought the house... Cause "it never leaks"...It was wet on one of my inspection and you had a wet squeezie down there...So the the old owner paid for one wall and the hole... I paid for the other three... Been happy with it....

After arriving on time (good!) and covering everything with plastic sheeting, they hauled tools in and began to jack hammer. the jack hammer had a boot with vaccuum hose attached that worked amazingly well in keeping dust down to an unbelievable low amount!
