Kubota L39. My next work partner.

This is a 2007 L39. GST transmission with only 400 hours on it. Nice size machine. I may have to keep this one. Nice and smooth!!

Nice looking machine. Not quite as beefy as your old moose, but it'll serve you well!!!

 

That is a nice machine. I imagine that you are mostly done with the big work now and can go with a little smaller machine? Any more tree roots to pluck from the ground?

 

Looks quite a bit cleaner. Less hours?

Big work is mostly complete. I do have more stumps to pull but most are smaller and the bigger ones left are from Pine trees that have been cut for probably 4-5 years now. So the stumps will break apart fairly easy. I can also leave them longer if I want.

I did get an hour the other day to try the L39 out. It is tight and smooth. A very nice machine. I haven’t seen anything wrong with it.

So I wish I would have taken a picture of the big rock that I dug up in the middle of a section of trail. It was too big to pull up and out, but the backhoes on these machines are surprisingly strong. I had a L35 quite a few years ago. I was very surprised how strong the backhoe was.

Anywho, I was able to around the rock, then turn it up on end. Dig the hole deeper, then flop the rock down in and bury it. No it has over six inches of dirt on top of it. Horses and rocks don’t go well together. So I’m trying to get rid of all rocks, and stumps. I’ll take a picture the next time I pull a good size stump or rock with this backhoe.

 

Definitely cleaner. Yes. Less than half the hours. But looks like it was kept inside and better cared for. At least on the surface. Oil looks good. I’ll change that soon though. Service light is on. I’ll grease it too. One rear tire has some cracking. Not sure if it had a flat and someone let it sit like that or what. But if I need to I’ll have a shop put a tube in it.

She has 3 horses, and I have 39. Seems fair enough.

The last time my wife mentioned how many tractors, saws, tools, etc I have I gave her a math lesson.

We totaled up what I paid for said tractors, implements, saws, tools, etc. Then we calculated what the things I've done around the house would have cost were they hired out. Making a nice big back yard, mowing that 1 acre yard multiple times a year, blowing leaves, plowing the 1000' driveway multiple times a year, finishing the upstairs of the house, new roofing, new siding, new side porch, window seat, not buying much oil for the last umpteen years, etc, etc.

Guess who had a higher number?

Then I assured her I could have hobbies that don't save us any money, like drinking beer, fishing, hunting, going to big sporting events, Nascar races, motorcycles, antique cars, gambling, strip clubs, etc, etc.

 

A conversation was had a long time ago about tractor expenses. I can put 250-500 hours a year on a tractor depending on if weather cooperates and what else is going on in said year.

If you hire out tractor/excavation work you would be lucky to get it done at $100/hour. So saying I do 300 hours a year. That would cost $30,000. We couldn’t afford it, not even close. I get all kinds of chit done when I need and/or want with my own machine. Move snow, mow anything, dig, lift, push, pull, rake, and on and on. And this way I have way more fun!

 

My favorite is when she says "I didn't want a big property!", I'd live in a condo and have everything done for me!"



Oh really!!! Lets put aside that you'd have a substantial condo fee, and would still have to clear the snow off your car which you don't do now.

Do you enjoy opening the door and letting the dog out without a care in the world? Ooooopppps, cant do that in a condo. Better get them buns out of bed and grab a leash, I know its 10 degrees and snowing but Fluffy has to go pee pee!!!

Do you enjoy having family over and being able to entertain in the big back yard??? Double oopsies....you don't have a yard. Better plan on renting a space at a park and hoping others don't ruin your time

Do you enjoy sitting out on the deck with a cup of coffee and hearing nothing but the birds chirping and the gentle breeze blow through the Pines....oh, you do. Don't plan on that being the case at the high rise overlooking a parking lot.

Do you enjoy not hearing disruptive music and not smelling offensive food from neighboring units. Shoot...you have zero say in that. Sniff away

Do you enjoy wood heat!!! Darn, the condo association says its a no go!!!


I could go on and on, but you get the idea. Her mouth fell to the floor when I laid out the scenarios of living in a "dream" condo. "I'd complain to management!" she once said. Yeah, ok, good luck with that. I'm sure it'll end up in the super duper important things to do circular file dear.

 

Yes Sir. Most ladies, including mine, are in heaven out in the country. Mine is getting ready to go on a horse ride through the woods with our youngest daughter. Doesn’t get any better than that.

 

Mines stubborn to change. She doesn't realize what she's got in big country estate. Slowly realizing. Maybe a few months in the city condo her mother is in would change her tune.

 

Mines lived in a condo, asking her if we should move too another is

This is a decent size rock that I pulled up and out of its hole. Then pushed it off the side of the trail. Pulled the Pine stump right next to it and leveled everything off after. Forgot to take the finished picture. Tomorrow maybe. I had to get back and hang out at house for a while with Mother-in-law so wife and girls could go for a horse ride through the trails. Wife needs to get outside and clear her head and relax.

 

Nice machine Gas, looks like you found a good one. Not sure what I'd do without my tractors.

I had a chance to do another hour of work with it the other day. I may just keep this one. It’s a nice size and still has decent power for lifting and digging. Things have been pretty wet here with warmer temperatures melting snow and now rain off and on. So I’ve been trying not to tear the ground up where I don’t want to. When the top of the ground starts to freeze it will be nicer for getting some things done with it. I’ll post up some pics in the near future of a couple things I’ve been working on that are tractor related.
