I have a bunch of broken down generator pallets ( don't tell pete) and want to build something with it. Still not having a wood stove yet so not knowing what length wood it will take, I have a feeling I will need to build a contraption to trim some of my pieces down. Sorry I don't know the scientific name of this amazing device but having one ahead of time will help me not feel like a doofus building it the day I need it. So throw all the pictures and blueprints and ideas at me please. Like i said I have scrap wood to build this and it doesn't have to win design and beauty awards.

I dug through my junk pile of scrap treated 2 x 4's & 2 x 6's (dumpster finds from jobsite I was working at some years previous) one day & built this in July 2012.Even the 3" galvanized screws were free (leftover odds & ends from cleaning out/sweeping employer's tool trailer) . Most have a little twist/cup/warp & nothing was over 50" long. Not pretty but its hella stout,very close to 100lbs empty.It stays in one spot.
This may seem dumb and sorry if it is but, how can i make it so i can throw already split pieces of wood that may be to long on there? I remember seeing I believe someone from this site having a square box that seemed pretty good for it.
The only variation upon stinny's creation that I would make would be to put it up on a stack of pallets. No bending over when loading/unloading it, no bending when sawing, and a bigger area to let the cookies collect in before you need to clean them up.
Also I took a peice of threaded stock that I got at Farm and Home that's 1/4" by 18" and drilled a hole in my bar on the saw. It's set at 17" which lest me walk down the log and notch every 17" so there all the same. I'll get picks of that too. Probably tomorrow night.
I use this for pallet wood boards , poles ,splits and other stuff that's a little to long Oh ya ,it's made from free pallet wood

There capetownkg, the guys really came through for you on this project. It is nice to see variations of ideas so you can pick and choose what you want for the final end product. Now you just have to get to work. Funny part is that while I was in town today I grabbed a couple bolts so I can make a new sawbuck. I think the last one was over 30 years old and it is now residing somewhere in a brush pile.
Capt I am going to try and get those pics up tonight! The wife is on the computer so I have to wait as their not on my iPad.
I know now I don't have any excuses for not building one. Need to build that and pick a stove to install so I can put all this wood to use.
That's one of many things I really like about FHC folks... when they're getting started and seeing how everybody does stuff. 100 different ways to do anything, and it's all cool... Need lots of pics...
Thanks papadave. Has anyone built the one at the firewood for life site? I'm trying to figure out how high off the ground the log would sit. Seems like it would be 48"-18"=30"??? Trying to determine if I should use 5' 2x4s for the Xs...
