Michigan folks, share your first fire for fall 2020. Temps are crazy this year. Its darn near Thanksgiving and just firing up.
Still doing just a small fire in the morning... maybe a itty bitty one at night..... some days nothing at all.... Bad thing is I have a few thousand extra gallons of propane to get rid of this month.....
In NC and the basement stove has been burning around the clock for a few weeks. We are super allergic to cold.
I thought Michigan was cold. Been burning awhile here. Quite a few nights in the teens. Quite a few days with highs in the 20’s already.
Temps in lower Michigan (capital area) have been a Rollercoaster. Seen 28° once Bounced from 70 to 28 Back to 60's then 40's Today 65 Just didn't see the need in firing up for a few days of brisk nights. Its finally starting to drop. Which for me means wood chopping season. Woohoo
Burning when she says to. That is since September SS. Now it is pre winter, then winter, then.... It's our 24/7 heat; no wall thermo set at 65 F. No central furnace. Just "SWMBO" ( Rumpole's wife Hilda )
Had a couple weeks, not in a row, of consistent burning. Last 2 days the stove has been cold but lit a fire tonite.
It's been pretty warm here, lows around 34 degrees to 56 degrees, highs in the high 60's I have had a few fires or a day or two at a time, but no fire for a few days. I went out and cut some trees down, 5 or 6 total, all black locust, I think, and bucked them up. Just cleaning up and old garden spot and trying to open up a trail for my side by side to pass between the back fence of the garden spot, and the woods. I am just bucking and letting it lay for a little while. It was warm enough I sweated through my clothes and I wasn't even working that hard at it. I was just bored and wanting to get a few tanks of fuel run through my new MS 261 CM, to get a feel for the saw. And I needed the exercise.
Some like their home warm and some don't mind bundling up. Then some will just turn the thermostat up and blow dollars up the chimney... As for me and my house, we don't mind bundling up...when we go outdoors. We don't have a furnace to turn on and we do enjoy a warm house. Therefore, we're long past our first fire of the season.
Had to turn the heat on in the garage and fired the wood boiler yesterday. It’s on until it gets too warm to run it in the spring..
"Some say the world will end in fire. Some say ice. But as for my desire, Ice will suffice." ( no not Dennis but he's close. Robert Frost from VT. )
We haven't lit a fire yet, but our situation is a bit different. If it was a normal season for us, we would have burned at least a month ago. We have had two snows and an ice storm already.
