I just started a thread on small, round, limb pieces of firewood. Made me think of Dave and then I thought of Kathy and then Michael. There's more than them I could write about but I'll stop with those three, lol. You might have "special" "friends" such as Dave, Kathy or Michael. Please post if you do!

Dave, to many around here, is a pest. He talks a lot. Same old, long stories each time. Some people see him coming and run. I always feel sorry for the underdog and Dave is it. He's not quite "right." His brother is very similar but more "normal" than Dave. Dave is real friendly but he can overdo it. I am not sure if Dave is "mentally off" or just going senile. He's mid 60s age. He repeats things all the time. The other day he came and got wood and called me ten minutes later and told me he is going to come get some wood in a couple days. Huh? You just left! (I actually didn't tell him, I just went along with it. This happens often.)

I get a kick out of Dave calling any piece of firewood, round or a split, a 'stick.' That's good as any, I suppose, lol. He's funny, he'll come buy and say "I need about 40 sticks today." I let him buy small quantities cheap cuz he struggles financially. I give him some each year. He says his only source of heat is wood and I believe him. Like the old days, he says he just has lots of blankets when the fire goes down. Thankfully, it does not get very cold here that often. He and his brother live in the house he grew up in, an old wood frame house out in the country. His sister, Kathy, used to live with them but they kicked her out cuz she's sorry, he says. The good news about Dave is as far as I know, he's honest and doesn't steal. I don't think his brother does either. Then there's Kathy.

Dave's sister, Kathy, is also a pest. She's in jail again. This time for stealing. Has been in jail I don't know how many times. When she was young, she was a looker, real pretty girl. She married and had a kid and her husband died young, seems he died in an accident. She went downhill from there. She cons people out of money and tries to not pay it back. She still owes me, lol. Steals. Does drugs. Has a very likeable personality. No front teeth. Weighs about 80 lbs. Man, what a family. Kathy even brought her granddaughter by to "teach" her how to have an older man who isn't broke all the time (me) on the hook to borrow from. That's my perception... that she was teaching her how to hustle me. They got $20 out of me that day, supposedly, for gasoline. Granddaughter was to bring it back the next day. That next day never came. Of course, Kathy promised that she, Kathy, was good for it even if the granddaughter skipped out. Isn't that something. So, Kathy, is a freeloader and now the granddaughter is, too. Pitiful. A way of life... conning people. I was going to hire Kathy to do some housework but a friend warned me she would steal anything that isn't nailed down. I already had somebody like that... Michael.

Michael is another story. Michael just last week got out of jail. For hit and run. Ran off after a minor accident because he didn't have a license. Probably was high. Does drugs. Michael is as likeable a fellow as you will meet. He can fix anything that's broke, he's a real handyman. I don't think he's had a real job ever. Ever. Been in and out of jail his whole life. Good looking fellow, mid 30s age. What a shame, he's sharp and could make a good employee if he wasn't so undependable and "sorry." He stole from me and I forgave him and I'll be danged if he didn't do it again! Even brought an accomplice and when I went back in the house after Michael did some work for me and I paid him, they loaded up the Mercedes convertible (yep, Mercedes convertible) with a lot of my stuff and boogied. That time, he got my fancy fuel and bar oil container, full. And my fancy $50 fuel can, full. And my new diesel can, full. And several tools. What a thief, the sorry bastid! And all of this after I helped him several times when he was down. Michael is a piece of work. He'll be in jail again within a short time.

Around here, Dave, Kathy and Michael are called white trash.

Carry on, count your blessings. Really.

Friends?! Shoot, I have extended family like that! :emb::picard:
Always broke, some are thieves, one stole an ATV that was in my garage (I was working on it for a kid that had just spent his life savings buying it!) when the cops found it, it was with a known cohort of one of my shady cousins...who I just so happened to see cruising the neighborhood the day before (I don't think he knew I lived there) I really doubt it was coincidence.
Its interesting, all of my "white trash" cousins have moms that married "the wrong guy"...my aunts/uncle that did better choosing a good spouse, had a much different life, and kids that look a lot more like productive members of society.

That’s truly a sad story Yawner and unfortunately all too common. I learned a long time ago to keep my distance, especially when they’re related to you somehow.

I will say though, you are quite the writer. I actually thought for a moment that this was one of those "Lake Wobegone" stories. Sorry that its reality.

Drugs are bad. I’ve seen them take down and ruin lots of good smart and pretty people including an ex wife and best friend. If you like having $ and things it’s best to separate yourself from them.
There is a saying I like use. If you keep hanging out in the barbershop you’re going to get your hair cut.

A couple paragraphs in I thought Pook somehow made it off his exiled Death Star that lord D’hearth Vader had put him on long long ago in a galaxy far far away.

    I’m with Sinngetreu
I saw the whole thing in color,,,although i was thinking more Paul Harvey ‘Rest of the Story’ than Garrison’s home town.

There’s a scene in Spinal Tap where the hotel desk clerk is getting harassed by the band and finally stands up for himself and says, “I’m just as God made me Sir.”
I try to remember that. Good or bad.

I just loved how he got under the skin of a few over there. Some of them took things way to seriously. Pizzed when he got the axe

Brenndatomu... that is quite profound what you said. I have always, generally, held women in a much better light than men. Over the past handful of years, that has changed. I wish it weren't so but it is what it is.

I went to the city today to pick up parts for my Husqvarna 346 and my Stihl 362. Both of these dealerships were in the "bad" sides of town. At each location, I'll be danged if I didn't get hustled by freeloaders wanting a gift. Panhandlers. I didn't bite but I did have a good conversation with both. To try to figure them out. I told them both I needed help with firewood. Chopping wood. It tires me out, brother! You're younger than me... why don't you come help me, I'll pay you good money. You can make some real good money quick! Both ran pretty quick, lol.

I think almost every one has a couple relatives who fit the above description. My theory on these matters is that if their over the age of 40 and still drugging, stealing and mooching of relatives it will never end!!
