CNY batten down the hatches

Bad winds just hit here. Claims of 70-80 mph. Only lasted about 5 min. Prolly 30-40 now .
Lost a few trees and sky lite off an old building. Worst wind I’ve ever experienced ! We live on the lake plateau 1200 feet above Lake Erie. We get some slammers here all the time but that was just plain wicked!

 

Hope the trees make good firewood! Glad you are safe.

 

That same weather front is supposed to roll through here between 10 and 11pm.

 

Uh oh, high winds too?

 

Yep. 50mph gusts forecasted.

 

We've had some real high winds in the last 6 hours...stuff flying everywhere...peeled some of the EPDM rubber off the one main wood stack...took 5-6 car and truck tires with it...one was 40'+ away!
Fortunately a concrete block stopped the cover from coming off completely...

 

I just looked, and we are only supposed to see high teens for wind.

 

Weather dood said 60 MPH here...I think it was at least that!

 

Crazy. I hope the tires were the extent of your loss!

 

I heard from a co-worker that half of a twin leader eab Ash tree came down at work today too (and I'm the self appointed clean up crew ) that's great and all, but I really don't have the time or the space for processing more wood right now...AND, my truck is in Tennessee so my buddy can repaint where the Florida sun baked the paint off the hood and roof during it's formerly southern life.

It's been very windy here for days it seems.

 

We just got hit hard. Moved a 10x20’ carport I had beside my driveway. Luckily my son had his car and it didn’t get damaged. The tie points for the anchors failed and only one held if from probably blowing into our house. No trees down and power only flickered once.

 

So how long did the big blow last in total? We are about 8 hours in here...

 

Well today's was from 7pm last night until 6 pm today. The "wind advisory" was from 6am -6pm today. But it really went all night last night until 6 today. So 23 hrs or so.

Edit, I'm talking sustained winds over 20 mph, we had 40 to 60 mph gusts today

 

The lights didn't even flicker but parts of our town lost power, they're still saying wind gust up to 55 mph until 4 a.m. this morning.

By the outage map I looked at, up near the St.Lawrence River in Ogdensburg NY had some pretty good winds but that tends to happen when you're near a big river.

Well, I was wrong, and it got really windy with torrential rain here last night at about 10:00. Shockingly, the power stayed on. It flickered a few times, but that was it. I just took a look around the yard with the flashlight. Surprisingly, all my EDPM roofing is still in place on the stacks. I did see a large dent in the roofline of the canopy that I use for my backyard workshop though. Probably took out the new LED light that I just hung right under the dent a few days ago too.

 

I must have slept good last night. Barely any wind at 10 pm. Woke up to a downed hemlock. Didnt even hear it crash. This one went to the neighbors side. Looks like the wind was up from the south since they all fell in the same direction.





Two dead spruce fell out back. Really opened up the area.





This might be a good reason to go look at a 261. Must be two cord all piled up here. My brother was asking for more spruce...

 

Dawn arrived and I saw that I got lucky. There were no limbs around my canopy. When I left for work I walked out back and confirmed that the wind just got under the cover and separated the top pipe from the side.
