I got a guy delivering me pine for $45 a cord. Well see if its a true cord Im thinking probably a pickup bed full but I figure thats not bad either. He said he should have it ready in a couple days. So well see what I actually end up with, most folks around here think a pickup bed is a cord.

That's the same issue for us too. I've never understood why they think that a truck bed is a cord without a real measurement. Always measure...

If I had a firewood company, my truck would have a 4x8 bed and 4' stock racks, and it would be stacked in the truck.

For $145 you should get some hardwood. Pine is too soft for that price.

How bad do you need the wood? Sounds like at $145 is hardwood price too... Green or season?

Its green and the lowest he will go is $120 the problem is I need the wood. Ive been working seven days a week since November and am now laid up with a busted foot so I havent got enough wood on hand for this winter. Im going to get a couple cord from him and Im working on a couple different things too. I should have known $45 wasnt right oh well.

Ya' gotta' do what ya' gotta' do.
If it makes you feel any better, the price range around here for a c/s/d cord of Oak is $150-195.
    Take care of the foot.
Oh, and if he thinks a pickup load is a cord, a little edumacation is in order (depending how it's loaded, etc.).
Of course, the discussion gets muddled until things get defined, since a cord around here means 1/3 cord to us.:headbang:
Anyway, $145 should be a full cord of Pine.

If you have to pay, pay a little more and get hardwood.. This deal already sounds like it's not quite a deal.. Regardless of what you get now, softwood or hardwood, you'll likely have to split it some more to be ready for this winter.. Are you anywhere near these guys?

    http://norfolk.craigslist.org/grq/4524427390.html

Doesn't have a price so it may be a little more expensive but if it's quality wood, may be worth it.. Just arm yourself with a moisture meter when they arrive.

Yes he also has ads in my area Ive talked to him before I think his price is around 275+ minimum two cords. Hes pretty legit though he knows what a cord is and delivers that. Hes also usually pretty backed up Im going to try him soon.

See if u can get elm or ash or maple for just a bit more. Personally I would not pay more than $100 for pine bit thats me. And that would be if I was in your shoes...I personally would never buy wood and havent. Well can't say never dont know what I would do in the future??

$145 is a little high. The pine I burned last year wasn't ready, but it didn't throw much heat compared to less than ideal hardwood. I would take any wood though. Wouldn't pay premium though unless it was good stuff..

Talked to this guy today he told me $195 delivered and he can bring up to 3 cord at a time. He also knows what a true cord is and promised that I would be getting a true cord and all oak or hickory. Im going to get two from him and three from the pine guy the pine will be seasoned by September Im sure. I had about 2 cords of it last year and it burned good a little fast but when I mixed it with with some maple and pecan it seemed to be balanced quite nicely. Im a fan of the pine Im hoping I can get the oak seasoned with the use of an experimental solar kiln.

Good luck on oak even her it will be close to 40% if cut live!!! That time year.

The line does burn well. I can't control the air as well down low as it wants to burn out but up medium or high it burns well for me just half the time or half the heat...you take your pick on how u burn it. Long n slow or fast.
