What a great job. Love the shed. Have to ask, are the 6X6,s for the shed on grade? I’m digging this approach for a future shed I would like t do.

Thanks and yes, it's on grade. (Before you ask, I dug down about six feet and the boulder still kept going so I just built the shed around it. The shed is just for firewood so it doesn't hurt anything.)

If my wood piles were half as neat, my wifee would have to find one of my other obsessions to “comment “ on!

The shed was built back in 2010 so I don't remember all the details but I did have some more pics. I would have preferred a saltbox-style roof (lower profile and the snow would mainly dump off the back) however, I wanted the option of accessing the wood from the back in the future. After a few years of rotating wood at the end of the season (to have the most seasoned wood in the front), I pulled the slats off the back and now just refill the shed since I can access the oldest wood from either side.

I didn't respond to everyone that has posted however I want to thank those who thanked me for my military service, it is greatly appreciated.

On a different note, I did a little work on the ongoing expansion project (reclaiming a soggy/brush-filled area and turning into a level lot to store wood). I had three dump loads of fill dropped off during the summer but haven't had much time (or energy) to move forward with the project. I did get six more boulders moved today for the bottom row of the retaining wall (scrounging them off my property). Playing with the grapple isn't really work anyway.

That’s nice! Looks like you haven’t even scratched the paint yet. Have fun with it! It’s supposed to be a well built unit.

Finally got the last of the rounds split from the stuff I had on site. After everything was done, I took measurements of what's in the wood shed and all the outdoor stacks and ended up being just short of my original estimate. I ended up with 13.78 cords CSS on hand and I had estimated between 14-14.5 cords before processing. If I factor in what I've already burned this year, it'll put me over 14 so I guess it worked out. 6 cords shy of what I wanted to have CSS by this time of the year so it's time to get out and scrounge again.

The last of the wood that was split was around 98% red oak so it will be great BTUs in a few years.
