Yup! Even with the primary air control, it would burn too fast. Stove is in the basement and the chimney is masonary through 2 stories (plus basement) and then attic. No draft problems here!

I looked in the pics posted but couldn't see the damper. :handshake:

Always can count on a good laugh around here!

Certainly not at the expense of SD Steve . Sounds like you may be getting a handle on the stove. Great.

This make me wonder about the quality of your fuel.
When I first started burning wood I was using not so seasoned wood and I would end up burning wife open if even for open for like 25-30 minutes to get the load engaged

The wood im burning this year i split, stacked and covered 2 or more years ago. I dont have a moisture meter, but I know the ends that could see sunlight are very dark grey in color. Under the tarp, the ends looked dry but not quite dark grey.

Dont think it has anything to do with the wood, it's the funky stove and he is dealing with it the best way possible. Hope you get it to your liking.

I dunno that I have ever read where anyone was in love with one of these fixed rate burn stoves...that key damper in the pipe is a good idea though...that's about all you can do other than to make sure you have dry fuel, and not get things too hot before closing the door for the last time.

This stove's directions/instructions even say DO NOT install a damper in the flue.......

I bought this stove because I could get it delivered to my house for $800.... freight, tax, everything.......im not made of money, you know

It is what it is, like I said i hope you get it to work for your application. There are some nice low priced stoves out there that offer much better performance. Keep plugging away.

I wasn't criticizing, just saying there is only so much you can do with those.
FYI, Drolet makes some top notch budget conscience stoves...not sure how big your stove is, but here is a Drolet 1500 for $799 with free shipping (and $300 tax credit eligible) again, just FYI.

Hey, I'm not upset at all. I have learned so much from you guys on this forum. I'm sorry, if it sounded like that. I am so grateful for a place like this that I can ask questions and get real world answers from people who are doing the same thing as me.

I hate the written word, we as human beings communicate with so much more than just words. Tone of voice, hand gestures, volume.....there's way more to talking than just the words we choose.........im sure you all knew that though.

Yeah, I have went back and re-read stuff that I posted earlier and realized that it was sometimes confusing...or that it could be construed completely differently than I meant it (and not for the good sometimes :hair:)

I certainly didn't take your post that way. Written communication does this. It misses out on all of the nonverbal communication that people rely on. S'all good:handshake:

Cool, the money comment made me think u were annoyed at something which i fully understand, i have a 3000 dollar stove that did not work for me sitting here collecting dust, replaced it with a 800 dollar drolet and could not be happier.

Ok, so back to getting a 12+ hour burn .

So, I was under the impression that a 12 hour burn was all that time with flames.

Is that not the case? Is a 12+ hour burn fire then just hot coals? Because I can get that. I can restart a fire in the morning from just the coals and throwing in a load of easy burning pine. Then throw on a load of hardwoods again.

Jeez, im ready to fly someone out here for a weekend, see my setup and give me some pointers.

12 hour burn for me (not that easy for me) would be with Oak and it would be coals at the end of the burn, wouldn't be very many either. I am at the limits of my stove with a south wind and below 0 temps.

To me a 12 hour burn means from loading time to re-loading time...a 12 hour burn in October is one thing, in January is another!
It can be a delicate balance between a stove that can be used in the shoulder season without running you out of the house, and one that can still keep up in the coldest part of the winter...supplementing with fossil fuel heat can make that dance a little easier.
