Local TSC has the 25 ton for $999, the 30 ton on sale for $1299. Which one do you all recommend? I split about 4 cords a year. I've seen a lot of 25's on here. Thanks!
I have the 25 ton and I haven't been stopped, it works fine. Inflation shows up again, I paid $799 on sale for mine about three years ago.
I have a 34T and I'd imagine a 25 would be just fine. I borrowed a smaller one before I had my own and it did great. Only reason I went big was because I found it for a steal.
I think (Could be wrong) the 30 ton may be a little slower if that matters. Hope to have there 25 ton myself next year.
Thanks for the replies! I was leaning toward the 25 ton. I was hoping they'd go on sale for black Friday, they were advertising black Friday prices this weekend but they were not on sale.
yes the cycle time is a little longer, not by much 2-3 seconds if I remember correctly, the 25 tons is an 11 sec cycle time but it's been a while since I looked at the spec. I never once looked at it and said, wish this thing was faster or had more juice. Automated and lighter would be nice lol
Anything over 20 tons will split almost anything you throw at it...and those 25's normally go on sale for $7-800 on black Friday...but who knows what things will be like this year!
Bigger tools take more dollars to buy and more to maintain. It can cost a lot more just for gas and oil, so for most folks, there is no need to go bigger. Our 20 ton does all we want and is more than fast enough. We don't even run the thing at full throttle.
My 22 ton has went through anything I set in front of the ram and if it ever does not that chunk needs thrown in the hollar....end of story.
I would compare the engines on the two machines. Many times the larger tonnage machine will have a better, more reliable, easier starting engine. Definitely check out all reviews on the engines.
I think the kohler on the 25t is liked overall with few issues. The biggest issue on these countylines is the beam with the metal on metal contact and wearing it down. It's a design flaw on all similar type splitters. 1 member returned his because of it.
