We recently hauled home six trailer loads of silver maple rounds that was given to us. We figured it would make good shoulder wood for 2021/2022 burn season. The rounds were all stacked at their house and the gentleman said he threw some other wood in with the maple. When we were splitting the wood we came across this wood that was really yellow on the inside and now that it has been split for some time it is turning a darker brown. My question is could this be Osage Orange? I have included some pictures that show the yellow and another piece by it's side to show the bark. Thanks for your thoughts on this.

I vote mulberry. My first thought upon viewing was it's not yellow enough for osage orange (hedge, bois d'arc, horse apple, any number of names!).

Agreed with Mulberry. Starts to turn color after a couple of days. I do have access to a couple Osage trees, but too much other wood in front of them to process. Maybe someday, but until then I will take all of the Mulberry I can grab.

I'll agree with mulberry. It will surprise you as it season. Goes from that bright yellow to milk chocolate brown and then almost a dark red color.

I'm thinking Mulberry. Not quite as good on the charts as OO, but it'll burn hot. Takes a while to dry though.

My first thought was mulberry as well. It’s still a really great firewood so no worries there. Osage Orange is pretty much unmistakable once you do see it, and I’m not seeing it there.
