It doesn't matter much how you came to your moment of clarity, the important thing is you arrived at that point in the first place. It doesn't matter if you're halfway through a bottle or strapped to a bed in the detox wing of a hospital. As the cliché goes, you hit bottom when you stop digging. Some people never get there and chase the illusion of control right into the gates of death. Nothing wrong with lemonade either. I remember drinking a lot of seltzer water in the beginning (I still do at family functions, if I'm feeling stressed, or just sitting by the fire) It's easy to trick your mind that way, the oral fixation thing. Whatever works for you.

I chewed for 30 years. In February I woke up one day and just never had another. Still have a nearly full tin in my nightstand. It’s a challenge at first but willpower will prevail if you put your mind to it.

Congrats to all of you Paul bunion, Brandon Scott and Eric Schamell! It is amazing what we are capable of when we decide we want to do something and we commit to it. You all deserve a :tip: for sure.

tree killer you get a :tip: too! I quit dipping in March of this year after 19 years. Cold turkey. On rare occasions I will still get an urge to buy a can but it is very easy to put those thoughts away now.

It’s harder to quit the habits than the addiction. My grandfather was a chain smoker who up and quit one day. Carried a pack of old golds in his shirt pocket for the next 30 years.

Agreed. You gotta break through the mental barriers of it then it is much easier.

Taking care of all animals and kids today. Doing household chores while my wife spends time with her Mom. They had a conference with surgery doctor in Syracuse this morning and apparently got very bad news. :(

Sorry about the bad news. Hopefully there are options. Even non-optimal options are better than none.

    Friendship is hard
    by Linda Buxa

It began in kindergarten when every student in my daughter’s class was called “friend.” While the teacher attempted to develop the essential character traits of kindness and empathy, you could already hear the phrase, “You can’t be my friend if . . .” followed by “you talk to her” or “you sit by him” or whatever other standard five-year-old children set.

As we all live through our teenage years, we realize that friendships just get harder. They fluctuate rapidly, thanks to drama, mean people, clothing styles, interests, or the popular group. By the time we reach adulthood, it almost seems that we don’t expect to call many people “friend.”

We’d like it to be easier, but friendship is hard—because we’re all working with sinful people (including ourselves). So when I think about being Jesus’ friend, I think it might be easier. After all, he’s perfect. What’s so hard about being his friend? Well, to be his friend, he turns our focus back to the people around us: “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. You are my friends if you do what I command” (John 15:12-14).

That makes friendship even harder! To be called Jesus’ friend, we love others completely, sacrificially. We give, even when we’re hurt. We put aside our self-centeredness in order to serve. We lay down our lives because our friend Jesus laid down his
