My ported MS461 is an amazing machine. Great for felling and bucking large the large hardwoods I have in my forest.
Some nice saws! Does the lightweight bar make a significant difference in weight? What other Stihls do you run?
I think the lightweight is more noticeable on the longer bars. The only other Stihl I have in an old 026, but I never really run that one. The only other saw I use with any regularity is a Jonsered CS2139T. That one is super light, handy and trustworthy.
Trash pile to wood pile! I was in the market for a 50cc saw (MS 261, 550XP), but after a tune up/clean up/smaller B&C, this 026 is awesome! Straight up spit serious chips while absolutely buried in some janky pine today. She then zipped through a bunch of red and white oak like nobody’s business. Should I port?!
Should you port it ? Just my opinion , but no ,I wouldn’t unless I was going to go for a complete rebuild . Let the old girl be what she is . A reliable ,and great little firewood getter .
A guy brought this by . “Hard to start . “ Comp.is 150+ ,can still see the machine marks on the piston . Looks like it’s been rode hard ,and put up wet . Gonna clean it up ,do a carb rebuild ,put a chain catcher on it , true up the bar ,and molest the chain . Should be alright after that .
I just freshened everything up and discovered I didn’t have an outerwear cover on the 362 and needed to get one for the 500. Chains sharp and ready for 2020/2021 processing once I pick up my splitter on Wednesday and these summer like temps wane.....
Nice saw! Deadly tree. Glad you got that one down safely. As you know, things can go bad in a hurry with that much rot in the center.
Finally got it back together and running this morning. New crank seals ( not sure they were needed) but wanted to try my hand at them. New plug, fresh gas mix and a good cleaning and it fired right up. Got lots of compression but didn’t put a gauge on it. I think I’m gonna like it. Probably run it some, but I’m thinking about getting it stuffed with extra sausage. OH YEAH... and I put a “real” bar on it, kinda short, but the only one I had handy. Thinking about a 32” for the long term.
