This is a pic of the truck's bed today. Comprised of hardwood cutoffs from a pallet factory.

I had a feeling of satisfaction come over me this fall. Let me explain.

A few years back, a "neighbor" at the lake asked about the wood pile at the cottage. I told him it would be ready to burn by 2019 or 2020. He mentioned that he buys his wood in the fall every year............... for that winter. I mentioned, you can get away with that with an OWB, but it'll perform better once the wood is dry. He said, "no OWB, its an indoor stove" Same answer from me and even mentioned if it is an epa stove....blah blah blah.

This fall, he stopped over as I was loading some of the wood that had been sitting there for years. Now get this, he asks, "Do you know anyone who sells dry firewood? I mean, truly seasoned, dry firewood?" :picard: He is older than I am (transplant from Ill) and after answering told him of the importance of stocking firewood for the future years as no one....I mean NO ONE seems to sell dry firewood. That is the reason I picked up my drolet eldorado epa stove so cheap...."the dang thing doesn't burn wood right!" (Yeah, I'll buy it)

Then again, why should the firewood suppliers sit on firewood for three years if they have a custo0mer willing to buy it this year?

We gave your neighbor the 'Wisconsin drive through" pass.  You're welcome:p

I still like to discuss with people on whether dry wood or wet wood burns better. I've yet to have anyone try to argue that wet wood burns better than dry wood. I also like to break out the moisture meter and explain the 20% threshold. Sure, wood that is higher than 20% MC will burn, but not as good, and it may not burn in some stoves very well, if at all.

Sounds familiar;). I planned on splitting and stacking the rest of the wood I had here into my wood shed. None of that happened. I did get the last green giant arborvitae planted and a liquor store run in though.

We had a Bible study this morning with friends and after having lunch with them I drove into town and picked up a birthday cake for my mom. She turned 99 today. She is in a nursing home so I couldn't get in to see her but I did call her this afternoon for a brief visit. Good weather coming next week so I can get some outside work done.

    Kiddo's Halloween

School party yesterday before school got out on Friday. Today, the few neighbors out here put together an Easter egg hunt for Halloween candy instead, COOL!!

We spent 21 years in a rural but (later) coveted neighborhood and only a few friendly neighbors. Here? Poor neighborhood, wonderful people, very small but tight community, We're Blessed.

Families all split to different places for the night, all 6 kids at the "Grandma of the road's house" for a movie and popcorn, younger couples went to Halloween Costume contest in town, other older ones including WWW went home. Then the kids are splitting slumber parties or boys one home and all the girls at another.

Despite all my misgivings of living without many conveniences where I do, I'm grateful for our "neighborhood".

I've gotten so carried away with wood and life in general this fall that I forgot to check my supply of "regular" heat source (home heating oil) It's reading 1/16 tank on the gauge. Oops! No matter, I'll have some delivered this upcoming week and keep the wood stove going in the meantime. As a precaution I put 5 gallons of diesel fuel down the pipe just so it won't run bone dry.

Well you got the most important job done   (I kid, as I don't drink myself) had to look up that green giant, never heard of them before somehow.

I'm going to change over to my winter wheels first thing after breakfast, to be better safe than sorry and get it done and over with. Then get as much further along with the siding as I can before I do a little fiberglass work. Around noon I'm going to stop work and go for a couple walks/drives and take some pictures as its supposed to be the nicest day we've had for a while. Then I have to go to town for a work seminar :headbang::BrianK:

Up a little earlier than I wanted to, but a pair of great horned owls decided it was time by calling out behind the house.

Yesterday was a small project day. I replaced the hood vent over the kitchen stove. The outside hood cover was old and rusted. A new one went in and sealed and blow foam insulation around it. Today I will replace the siding unless we get predicted rain.

I replaced the gasket on the secondary assembly on the woodstove. The local hardware store had the right gasket in stock.

I have some more work in the kitchen today, but it is just cleaning and organizing tools and materials. No deadlines today.

I did get bird seed yesterday. I also grabbed galvanized pails with lids to keep the mice out. They were a big problem chewing holes in the seed bags.

I set the seed out and had a blue Jay and cardinal showed up. Within a half hour chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers, etc found it. It is nice to see the winter birds back around.
