I have got to stay off of Ebay, bought too many ax heads

Moderation is not my strong point, it seems. I have had too much idle time available with the rain and all.

I have bought some more ax heads. No pictures right now, but I bought a True Temper Flint Edge Jersey and also a nice Collins Jersey, and then I bought a Collins Bow Tie big double bit (should be a good splitter, as it seems to have more of a splitting profile but would probably be a good chopper too) and another Kelly double bit (large ax also) and to round it all out, I bought a big, old, but hardly used, True Temper Pick ax, which I had been wanting. I don't need a pick often but when needed it's pretty nice to have.

And I bought a Pulaski ax a couple of weeks ago, and it's a surprisingly good splitter. I heard that they worked better then one might think so I tried it out and was surprised.

Anyway, I am getting saturated with axes and other implements, but what the heck. I like trying different ones out, just to see if there is really much difference in profiles when in actual use.

I had sort of been wanting a good pick ax. My dad had one, I used for years, but it seems to be lost now, since he passed away about 3 years ago. You don't need one often and when you do, it usually for an aggravating problem, waterline leak or something, but when you need one, you need one.

 

I am going to put straight handles in the two Jersey single bits. The old single bits all had straight handles, until maybe the 1930's which is a mystery, as to why they changed, because most of the curved ones, make the ax harder to use and less accurate in my opinion, and and also the opinion of some ax historians.

 

Soooo...you are the competition? I too have acquired a small issue with axe head and ebay.

You won't get sympathy or discouragement here. Just a bunch of enablers here.

Nice iron you picked up there. I'll admit to buying antique tools. It is a good hobby.

Nice collection of steel there. That Tru Temper double bit looks practically new.

Nice. What kind is the double bit head with the swages behind the blade? We had a single made like that when I was a teen, old fellow that helped us really liked using it.

 

Those are Kelly's as well.

 

I thought that was what the old fellow told me it was. Need to see if I can find it.
