There was somebody on one of these type forums that had come up with a rather simplistic design quick release one and was having small batches of them made and offering them up at a good price. I was tempted to snag one just because good deal but I didn't own any sort of winch at the time. Now I have several and a trip release might come in handy.

I have been using my snatch a lot recently it is a very valuable tool if you have hilly terrain. Don't know what did without it!

watched some videos on them, im still confused what black magic is used to get the cable out, seems like it would be trapped by the bar that goes over the pulley, does the ferule (I think thats how its spelled) hit the bar and get shoved out? also seems like if your not carefull it will snatch load the cable and do damage, but this is just coming from someone who didnt even know these self releasing snatchblocks existed till yesterday

Maybe you're overthinking it. The tab/bar just stops the rope/cable from jumping off the sheave/wheel should it start bouncing around. When the shackle on the rope comes up and pushes the tab out of the way the rope/cable is free to pop off.

I've got a More Power Puller like you are referring to. They are very capable, high quality tools. You will wear yourself out though if you plan on dragging logs long distance with it.

I moved the log in question about 40ft up a fairly steep hill with a comealong, it was a workout, I found if you but a piece of a large limb or small tree trunk (About 2ft long 8-10inch diameter) under the log you are moving it moves much easier

Doesnt help that I was at a friends Birthday party and decided to see if I was faster than the tallest guy there, hit the street to run faster, and slipped, my knee is not liking me right now...
