41F this morning, somehow the house got cold (62F) last night even though I had a small fire yesterday evening. I suspect theres a window open in one of the kids bedrooms and probably her door is open too. I just fired off some cherry uglies, and a few small oak splits that my youngest helped me by taking from the woodshed where I was stacking, and bringing it BACK out to the stacks and put with the shoulder wood.
38 and 73, just getting a little hemlock and beech going on the coals from the 3 beech splits I put in about 9 pm. Cold rain coming today in the 40’s and they’re talking possible snow Friday morning so maybe it’s coming. We still haven’t seen a killing frost. I won’t complain about picking cherry tomatoes in late October but it feels a little weird.
49 out 74 in. Mid to high 50's until late week so I'll either just light an overnight fire or run the boiler. Colder toward the weekend.
I hear you. The weather can be so unpredictable. I remember Valentines day 2016, my wife and I went to a show in Worcester, MA, and it was -16F without the wind chill. We had to walk a few hundred yards into Union Station where the show was. Holy crap!!! Felt like an ice cube by the time we went in.
Cloudy here. Looks like we've made the annual switch to cloudy weather that usually lasts at least 2-3 months. But these clouds along with being sandwiched between the great Lakes means most of the super cold misses us. We laugh many times when folks in Indiana and Illinois complain it is much colder there than here.
41 degrees here and rainy, feels like 38 degrees. I am running a little cherry mostly, just coals now. True shoulder weather, I guess. Got wait until I am cold before building a fire, so I can get it up to heat and no smoke, then coast for a while.
Mid 40s F all day yesterday... we were holding in the mid to upper 60s in the house, trying to get a few more not fire days in before starting the wood consumer. Well, that didn't work and we lit an overnight fire. Misc splits that came from the mixed stack of splits created from the pile of logs that I needed to use the hydraulic for. Mix of mulberry, maple, prolly a short split of oak or two. Plus some gnarly ash chunks from recent hoarding. Woke up this morning to a comfortable 72 F with the last vestiges of heat coming from the blower. Very nice!
Turned the heat on for the first time this year....been cloudy and in the high 40's low 50's and the house felt a little chilly. Feels pretty good in here now though. Boiler is working on some bradford pear right now.
House was 59F this morning. Lit the first fire of the season. Small load of oak and elm. It’s 70 in here now.
Low 40s here and rainy. Brought in a load of red oak to test out for the first time yesterday from our stacks. 17° moisture on a fresh cut, it burned good, long and hot. I was impressed.
Mid teens tonight. A lot better than what was originally predicted. Ended up with close to 10" locally (in some spots) over the weekend.
Spoke with a neighbor down the road from the cottage a bit and he said that there was ice on part of the lake this morning. Wait until tomorrow morning!!!!! Next time down, I'll grab some pics.
