We have a 30 day guarantee on the work done by the exterminator. If the activity keeps up, I'll get a call in next week. There has been no activity on the entrance he dusted.

Work was a non stop fire drill today.

After that was over my boiler fan wouldn't start....got that all figured out. Kind of a fluke thing. Some creosote dripped down and stuck my fan impeller to the housing and blew the fuse. After I figured out I needed a slow blow fuse I was back in business.

Going hunting tomorrow AM. Dusted off the bow earlier in the week and it is still shoots better than I do.

We have quite the soaking rain going on today. Looks like hearth build and maybe tile setting by tomorrow. Hopefully the hole for the OAK is not in the middle of a joist. Beside the dryer being in the next room over and potential stack effect issues, it makes sense to put one in. Hopefully, double wall should maintain good stack temps. It should be a productive day.

The rain is really coming down right now, supposed to stop mid morning, then get a lil windy. I need to give the stove a good cleaning, and replace the gaskets, and climb under the porch and give the chimney a cleaning too, might do that tomorrow. I really need to start moving the firewood into the shed, but I will give it some time for the ends to dry first, so maybe next weekend.

I've gotten another 2.5" of rain since yesterday morning (no pic because it is still dark out). The rain took it's time building up and there is still no ponding out back which tells me it is all soaking in :singingintherain:

    The feelings of a father
    by Jason Nelson

America was a mere 50 years old when Andrew Jackson was president. The country was frontier, and the unitedness of the states was a work in progress. There were pockets of resistance to the idea of a federal system, and slavery and taxes were divisive issues. South Carolina was a proxy for what a confederacy of southern states would do later. It declared the authority of Washington D.C. null and void. But Andrew Jackson felt about his young country the way he felt about his family. It was his responsibility to hold it together. He threatened military action to preserve the United States. He sent a declaration to the people of South Carolina explaining what he was prepared to do. He said he was writing to them “with the feelings of a father.”

Inescapable responsibility is the feeling of a father. Fathers know the buck stops with them. There is no holiday from their duty to be their children’s providers and protectors. Jesus referred to fathers as proxies for God: “Which of you, if your son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:9-11). We can depend on God because he cares for us with the feelings of a father

That is a score, but it is closer to you and fishingpol. Nice small rounds too. $60 seems a little steep.

I was on my way home this chilly morning and smelled a fire at the bottom of my road. Get closer and I see smoke billowing out of the chimney in question. I can see a couple cords of wood in the backyard with one of those covers that completely smothers the top and sides of the stack (why do companies even make such a thing, promoting bad practice?!?!) The new homeowner seems like a guy I can talk to; he's been busy all summer building all sorts of fencing, a deck, general home improvement stuff. My kind of people. I'll mind my own business though. If the opportunity to talk to him ever comes up I might bring it up casually but I'm not the type to go down there and tell him he's doing it wrong. I'll give him points for burning wood in the first place. It just gives wood burners a bad name, smoking out the neighborhood like that.

I suppose they would be. Just a dusting? Or did it actually snow at your house?

I'm good. Sitting on about 7 cord. I can trip over another one or two out back.

I've been working on the hearth since 8 am with a few breaks. Lots of work making the base level. 3/4" ply, 2 layers of durorock. I set a piece of 26 gauge sheet metal over the ply first in the front for additional ember protection. It is ready for slate tomorrow. Coffee break now and then clean up. I can't wait to get this done and inspected. I'm really killing myself today. I have to go on the roof tomorrow for the roof flashing.
