No more gardening this year for most folks by the sound of it.

I picked all the garden items last night in preparation. Tonight we're having stroganoff that my wife makes with turkey meatballs. It's really really good. She'll use a bunch of the fresh Italian parsley from my garden for that. I have a whole vase of that parsley that I'll give to our friends on Sunday. We've got a couple of pots of herbs, and I've got a couple parsley plants in those, but none of those grew anywhere near the size that the 2 parsley plants that I put in the garden got to.

Probably that and because it might be a part time residence, they suspend mail service for the winter. Just my guess. I know a few that do the same thing.

My first fire this season. Very damp and cool here. Just got the stove cleaning done. Used to do the cleaning quickly. There is no more "quickly" for much of anything now.

I still have some spinach going strong and the peppers haven't been stymied by a couple of cold nights yet. I doubt they're growing much at this point though, days are getting short. But the spinach likes it.

My cherry tomatoes (black cherry, Juliet, super sweet 100, yellow pear) are hanging in there, but the plants are looking well past their prime. The black beauty tomatoes are just about done. The peppers are almost done but I have quite a few hot peppers I'll leave on until the first hard frost. I still have a few small Carolina Reapers and Ghost Peppers that are starting to blush, along with Tabasco, Jalapenos and hot cherries. A sad state of affairs in the garden though. Some Cilantro popped up in the last few weeks which is loving the cool weather. That'll be the last thing I harvest this year. In early spring I'm all gung-ho about getting cool weather crops started but by fall I always seem to run out of steam, lose interest, or get busy with winter preparations. Then come late February I'm back at it starting seeds indoors again.

I remember when I lived in St. Petersburg starting tomatoes from seed outdoors in late February. This is a great time of year to be down there. Not miserably hot and humid, and not quite inundated with the snowbirds yet.

We had an exterminator out about two weeks ago to take care of some yellow jacket nests in the walls. The most active one seemed to settle down but it is in the wall somewhere. The yellow jackets made their way into our bedroom via the closet and things got a little crazy today. I ended up getting a battery bug swatter and took them on. Here is what I got in two hours.

I'll tape around the door tonight and empty the closet tomorrow and seal the entry point.

Hearth build starts this weekend. Stove install in two weeks.

We are good. They don't seem to fly in the dark and I haven't seen any flying around since last check.

Supposedly mice are/can be attracted to their nest(s) in the Winter. Supposedly they don't use the same spot from year to year. So if any queens for next year made it out you might have them again next year. I had them for three years and then a ground nest the fourth. . Hopefully your extermination project broke the cycle.
