Finally made it! I've got only a small amount of wood to put in the barn. So I got to looking around where I was at and although I could not see all the wood piles, I'm certain there is at the minimum of a 3 year supply still out there. Plus I still have a bit to stack yet that Redneck Randy split last month. Here is that picture showing what is left to stack. There is just a small amount more; maybe 1/3 cord at most. So now you know that the savage can get on the 3 year plan!
Now you need to walk around to all the other stack locations and take there pictures. Your probably closer to 4 or even 5 years if you burn you deer blinds
I thought you were already on that plan, especially with all the white oak that was cut in 2019... Guess missing a year will get you in the hole again. As huskihl said, next GTG will get you over the top again.
I think I am about there on the 3 year plan. If not yet, I soon will be as I have quite a bit of black locust left to cut, this year. And It looks like I am going to have a few ricks of Hackberry, also if I want it. Actually, I will be at probably 4 yrs or better. The main issue I have though, is I only have a couple of ricks that are well seasoned, but I have quite a bit of wood that has been dead for probably 2 years or more, but just recently cut and split and stacked. But, I guess I am as well off as usual, as I have pretty much brunt dead standing red oak, cut and split the same year as it was used. However, I always burn a hot fire, and never have had a chimney build up.
Don't make us come out there and drop those big oaks around the house.......that'd get you back up to the 7-10 year plan.....
Yeah, we have to keep an eye on guys like you and huskihl and Armbru84 and a few others! Like those oaks by the house.
Congrats on getting on the 3 year plan! I have 3 kids - 2 in middle school and 1 in grade school - and another employee just tested positive for COVID. I think this makes it somewhere around 6 employees now since school started........a MONTH AGO. Good thing I didn't listen to the wife and kept the kids home with me. That said, this winter will be abnormal in terms of heating as well since I typically am doing something and don't have the heat turned on in the house. But with 3 little ones, I'm going to have to run the fireplace all day long. I can see it now - "Mrs. XXX, can I please be excused for 30 seconds? I need to add 2 logs to the the fire....." Last year we burned through 2 stacks which is just over 4 cords. And that was an extremely mild winter where we only had ONE major snowfall. Going to have to see how much I burn through this year but it will be wonky one way or the other and not too useful for future winters unless this covid thing persists. So I have no idea what kind of plan I'm on. All I know is I have 6 stacks (2 cord each) tarped up and ready to go....and that should be more than enough (famous last words). Looking forward to this! Have only burned one time so far.
Also my house has no insulation in the walls. Zero. 1947 Cape Cod. I already went up to the attic and removed all the old insulation (if you can even call it that - it wasn't even 2" tall), sealed all the air gaps with spray foam in a can in the top plates, wire holes, waste stack, installed baffles for the roof deck, blew in 18" of all-borate cellulose insulation, installed expanded metal screens for the 2 gable vents, and closed up the opening for a total cost of like $800 or something. Made a huge difference immediately. I do what I can but I ain't getting robbed for $6k.
