Thanks. Love my 460. Pic of 37" white oak (stump diameter) i felled a couple years ago with 36" bar on 460. Biggest ive ever dropped and first time using the 36" bar. Not that often it wears the long bar but always fun to buck a big log in one swath. Get my "Paul Bunion" on! :saw:
EDIT: didnt notice full wrap handle. Never used a saw with one. Dont fell a lot of trees. I almost bought a used 460 or 461 (cant remember) last year on CL. It was a rescue saw with full wrap and D pull rope. How much in CC's do you think the saw gains with port and MM? Can i buy a muffler already done? IMG_3904.JPG

    Nice size oak.
I really could not say how much you get from the porting and muffler mod because it really depends on how radical it is. I do not like to go crazy with the porting but I like to really open up the mufflers. I can say this it will gain more RPM and a little more power which makes for a faster cut in wood. But at the same time a good sharp chain can sometimes accomplish the same thing.
I believe I have seen some dual port mufflers on ebay for a 460.

    002.JPG

This muffler has an opening on the front and then the double barrel on the side. Normal is just the opening on the side but I believe the ones on ebay I have seen had a opening on the side and front.
I bought this saw used and then went through it.
I always leave the spark arrestors In place even on a modified muffler.

I was just on ebay and typed in MS 460 dual port muffler. There was no shortage and some pretty good prices with free shipping.

    Any dealer S.O.P. Rules :
    1. NEVER say "no hurry". ( Then you go to the "no hurry" pile)
    2. ASK "about how long" and the E.T.A.
    3. 'What's this going to cost ? " Ball park.
    4. Is the saw worth fixing here....or can I do it myself ?
    5. " Do you like me ? " ( Only in CT.):D

I've done the same. Not necessarily bad service, but whining and scolding about parts I want to buy for my equipment. Last straw was when I literally had to argue with the guy for 5 minutes when I wanted to buy a 20" bar and chain for my CS-490. Decided I'd never trouble him with my business again. Since I've bought a $1200 chainsaw and a $1500 snowblower, bars, chains, sprockets, oil, wedges, trimmer line, from another place that's a bit further and appreciates my business. The guy has lost 3 grand worth of sales over not wanting me to run 18" and 20" bars on my saw so I don't have to bend over as far when doing ground work.

10-14 days is plenty of time for the dealer to order parts and fix a unit.
If they can't pull it off in that amount of time, its time to find a dealer that can.

HL supply also sells dual port mufflers and I think the bark box mufflers.

Back in the 90’s I spent a bunch of $ on bolt on hp, bling, engine swaps, suspension......
An older mechanic saw the jewelry under the hood and said “son if you want a fast car, buy a faster car.”

Porting (cylinder with machine work) can pick up some power and rpms depending on what was done, but it’s hard to guess the effects. A 460 does seem to benefit from an open muffler. I have built up four and experimented with muffler types a bit. The AM mufflers and covers referenced above are “ok.” The paint will peel and some don’t have screens (fine with me) but they breathe and hold up surprisingly well.

AM metal clutch covers are a great deal for most saws taking the 1125 “normal” size cover. Too late now, but for $17 delivered that would’ve been fixed. Depending on your bar studs, most line up great. The larger studs may require a careful step drill/ream to mount up properly. They’re honestly the one AM product that is consistent and appropriately priced.

All that time and didn’t replace the fuel line? I think that’s a five minute job for someone versed in saw repair.
Now that would have drove me nuts. Might’ve marched right over to the flamethrower store.
