    I was given some gardening tools by a neighbor who is moving and this was in the bag. I have no idea what this is.

    Ok but why is it so short and small? And what's the hook on the end of one of the handles for? And why isn't there insulation on the handles if it's for grabbing something hot? So weird!

    My guess is it is a one-time use pair of grippers that came with some assembly materials and tools for some kind of appliance or furniture that you assembled yourself.

    Ok mystery solved. They are a pair of CANNING TONGS. Finally heard back from the neighbor. Used to take mason jars out of a pot of boiling water.....the hook on the end is used to release the pressure of a sealed jar.

    But a spring clamp makes sense too!! Maybe she just had them and used them for the canning purpose. That's weird though - perhaps the same tool with multiple functions? :D

    If those are canning tongs they must've been designed by a sadist who enjoys getting burned, these are canning tongs.

    It was given by a neighbor. She said they were canning tongs! :D

    I'm going to guess somehow someone she knows has a trampoline. I'm going to ask her. :D
