Yesterday i put the first cover on my wood for this winter, i had bought a harbor freight grommet kit so i could install grommets around the edges of the tarps. My tarps are of the ''former'' billboard, sign type with print on one side and a solid color on the other. Afteri cut it in half, now, both sides and the top of my stacks are all covered, first time in years that i've been able to cover the sides as well as the top of the stacks. And, it rained hard early this morning and still its, supposed to rain for the next 4-5 days. I'm really happy with these billboard type of cover's!!!
Should work out although I am not a fan of covering the sides of wood stacks. I would be very interested to know how long those tarps last as I've considered buying some of those myself.
I agree with not covering the sides, but, i have 3 7ft long x48 '' pallets leaning against each side, for circulation and the west end is just slightly covered the east end is about the same. so, i think there's plenty of circulation around and through the wood. I will check it periodically as time goes by. I did put the black side up, which is probably a mistake, the other side is a lot lighter in color, but, is a huge watch sign, might change it out to the other side today if the rain stop's .
I'll see if i can get some pictures today. But right now its really raining hard!!! We need it though , still some big fires going on to our south and in the mountains.
Here's a picture with the black side up, you can see the bottoms of the pallets on the front left corner' This billboard sign made 2 very big tarps, i can over lap them and have 2x's the protection. I'll flip it when it stops raining and it'll be a big Rolex watch sign.
The only caution I'd give is to fill in those low spots if possible. It can be bad when water sits (that will rot first) but it can cause bigger problems when that water freezes. Naturally I speak from experience...
Gotcha, lol i'm going to look for a good pole that will make it so i can peak it up at the top, so the water will run off it better. I even thought about putting some ''rafters'' off the pole to really make it so it'll run off as well, But, now i'd be getting closer to a building of sorts , and the city might cry about that. This is a first for me being able to actually cover it with a ''tarp'' that big, its stopped raining for a while so i'll go out and recover it, ''watch '' side up , i'll take a picture of it then as well.
Oh boy, i already flipped it, that in itself was a job by myself, but, got it done, it wasn't as bad as i thought it would be, i just had to go from side to side to make sure it was even on both sides at the bottom. I was a little afraid that it would get too hot, and maybe start mold to grow under the tarp and mess up my wood. Right now its really good dry wood. Then i folded it under itself and put some weight on it so it will stay up. I added a few grommets on the front and i'll add a few more tomorrow, so if i want i can tie it down or put some weight on it so it won't blow up in the front. There's a shrub to the south of it, and by the time i got it all laid out and folded under i was soaked. Came in took a hot shower and kicked back for a while. Let her rain, we're ready on this end. lol
Not stacked BB and your's is looking good man but kinda did the same as you today and more for the leaves this fall but now thinking of leaving it till spring when i do stack it. Titan had fun also.
Mine is on gravel, and pallets on top of that, or, around here it'll start to rot by spring. good lookin dog!!
Gotcha man and half the same here but not too worried about the bottom as it can go on top in a few months. Ya he's quite the dude.
