Like the title says I’m looking at getting some strap on chainsaw pants. I’d like y’all review and links to some thanks in advance.
Every Stihl dealer sells them. That’s where my last pair came from. 25yrs ago a pair saved my quad from being dissected by an 044. I was working ice storm damage that day and learned 3 valuable lessons. 1) chaps are an important safety guard 2) when you are fatigued, put the saw down 3) engage the chain brake before repositioning.
Chainsaws are like weapons, don't put your finger on the trigger till you're ready to pull it. I got some craftsman pantyhose that were handed down to me, They work well enough I guess, I fortunately haven't tested them yet..
Chainsaw safety pants area must when running a saw IMO. Check out Labonville, I have a pair and they are very well made compared to other brands. They may be a few dollars more but I don't mind spending it on safety.
We all have hours upon hours of running a saw safely. All it takes is that sharp, full RPM chain to touch flesh and life may be forever changed. While your on the chainsaw safety pants, other PPE is equally important: hearing, eye protection and helmet. Until I got a helmet I never realized how many twigs hit my head, I hear them ting off the helmet to often.
I have a Stihl pair I picked up when I bought the saw 11 years ago. They work great. Well, I haven't tested them yet. They are comfortable and I won't cut without them. Anyone wear shorts under theirs during the warmer months? Seems somewhat counter intuitive....but I suppose thick pants aren't going to stop the chain. That's what the chaps are for.
I do. If the chainsaw pants don't do their job, whatever you're wearing under them isn't going to save you either.
I have a Stihl pair. They are comfortable and have saved my hide a time or two, while cutting in the snow and ice. Even a “whoa, that was close” with chaps on, would typically be a severe laceration without them. Chainsaws don’t play nice
Somewhere i have some labonville ones I got as a gift, seem well enough made. I'll admit that I've never used any chaps in over 40 years of sawing though.
Guilty as well.. If I'm bucking off the horses, I don't always wear them. If I'm cutting on a pile of logs I do. Nothing replaces awareness all that safety gear is for the oh chit moments.
Yes I've worn shorts. You are correct the regular long pants are not for stopping the chain. Turns out they are for stopping whatever bugs they are that feast on the back of your knees if you are not wearing long pants.
