Found a couple really nice old timbers full of square nails. I assumed they were oak and grabbed them. Got them home, took at cut on the end and immediately realized they’re cedar. Look at how tight those growth rings are! Less than 1/16th. I’ll clean these up a little, mostly leaving the weathered look. In time I’ll dream up some little project with the wood and square nails. I love finding old stuff like this.

That was some real timbers. We have found some old growth long leaf pine timbers like that. Great stuff.
I'm sure you'll make something nice from it.

It doesn't look like much progress, but the bit of carpentry work for the gable end was a pain. Can't wait to get at least the front done.

Nice job going over door and under window. You lined it up good... What brand of siding are you using?

Thanks very much, I'd like to know what brand it is myself haha. Mom's boyfriend got it for me second hand and free of charge from the house he's working on

Yesterday was spent pulling down more of the kitchen ceiling. Middle third drywall is up. 3 more sheets should do it. 1st coat of mud is up.

This morning when the sun hits the house, I should be able to finish the siding and trim around the kitchen window and paint before lunch. I'll get an early start setting up ladders and platforms so I can get right to it. Probably a two coffee cup morning.:coffee:

We will have some family time this afternoon spending it outside enjoying the fall weather.

Tomorrow, I start a new job at my company. It is in a different location, and a better fit for my skill set. I am really looking forward to it.

Stove install is in less than 30 days, kitchen ceiling, stove hearth, attic bedroom build still underway, winter prep...:hair:

It is all good though. Have a great day everyone.

Hopefully it also is less stress and you don't have to put the massive time in like the last one!

Pulling down the kitchen ceiling, so you are doing it in stages, pull some down and put some up? Do you put up plastic to contain the mess? Nasty job. You must be looking forward to doing something different today.
Hope your new work role goes well!

Yes, sections at a time. Everything covered in plastic. My wife has been great about the project. She knows in the end it will be very nice. Keeping it moving forward helps rather than starting and long delays in between.

Caffeine going in. Time to get back to work on the basement project. I’ve been taking care of some other things and at work lately. Then, I think I’ll take a break from it in the afternoon and move some firewood in under the covered porch. Then go back to the basement again. So far my son has moved about three face cord under. Lots more to go! Temperatures look like they will stay mild for a while. Only one colder night coming this week. Down to 30 Thursday. So hopefully I can get this basement project finished up over the next week or two and get all the firewood moved under cover, and then start burning around the 17th-18th. All you hoarders have a good Sunday!

Living in a construction zone isn't easy but it helps if you can see progress. Worst for us was when the entire kitchen was taken out to redesign it. My SIL provided meals for us for three days until we got things back in order.

I was sore and tired from being on a ladder a lot of the day yesterday. All of that up and down the ladder crap coupled with drizzle that turned to rain really takes it out on you. I found out that my Rocky boots are not really waterproof any more as at the end of the day when the steady rain kicked in, my feet started to get wet. The leak must be from the soles because just the bottoms of my feet and socks were wet. It was more than damp, but not full blown soaker.

A couple of extra strength Tylenol and rum and cokes helped though last night.

I'll need to start looking at boots though. I need water proof ones that are comfortable and hopefully USA made. This Rocky's I had were some of the last made in the USA, before they moved to Asia manufacturing. So they have lasted a while 15+ years, maybe more, and I'll use them still, but hopefully only on dry days.

I'll probably look at the Thorogood boots since many of that brand are made in Wisconsin and they have an outlet store on the way to the cabin up north.
