So we had a nice Alaska cruise planned for Sept to celebrate our 32nd anniversary...well, we all know how that turned out. But I had the vacation time on the calendar at work and knew I needed to do something special for my hard working hunny. I planned a surprise trip to LA for her. (Lower Alabama) She got to meet a lady that she follows on FB that does cooking shows. She also owns a B&B. We stayed at her cottage. Her daughter also planned a sunset dinner picnic on the local lake. So she did get her anniversary boat ride. I also took her to a great steak house Our breakfast that Miz Brenda Gantt fixed. While we were there in Andalusia Ala, we rode up to Georgiania, hometown of Hank Williams Sr. We came home for a few days, then started the 2nd part of the trip. We headed up to VA and NC. We visited Waltons Mountain Museum Earl Hammer Jr was the real life John Boy Walton. He created The Waltons and Falcon Crest.
Before we left VA, we visited Appomattox Court House, where Gen Lee signed the treaty with Gen Grant. We then traveled down to NC, visiting Wilkesboro, Boone, Blowing Rock and Asheville areas. Met a couple friends and they got to play with the MS461 saw...... My FB friend, Brandon Boyd... And a very distant cousin, Rush Battle ...maybe he'll claim us...... We had a great time in the mountains. Grandfather and Grandmother mountian Mt Mitchell, highest point east of the Mississippi River in in the far distance The valley below The Blowing Rock The Blowing Rock. You can throw a dollar bill off the rock, out over the valley and it comes back to you.
Thanks for pictures of your trips. I sit here in my chair and explore parts of North America I will never see in person.
Looks like you had a great trip. Too bad about Alaska cruise. Thats on my list. Congrats on 32 years!!!
We would have waved at you. lol Depends on the weather and the cruise ship schedule whether or not they actually go past our place.
Great pics of the smokies! Next time y’all are in the neighborhood you need to visit the Andy Griffith museum and mount pilot.
One of my favorite stops on the way to the beach.....Mt Airy (Mayberry). Our timing was right a few years ago for Mayberry Days. I stay in touch with a local via text a few times a year.
