Yeah, I just bought a 5 cu ft chest freezer a year ago. To supplement a 18 cu ft upright. It was supposed to be in use maybe 6 months before it would be empty and we'd then have just the upright - but then the pandemic it filled up with meat and things. I've used some storage containers to make it easier to get to things on the bottom. When I need a package of something from it I usually take several items and put in the other freezer so I don't have to go digging very often. It might actually be empty by Jan or Feb this year as the garden didn't yield so good this year.

I blame it on pinterest.

I'm referring to the rusty crusty used stuff. It is used as a decorative feature in homes. Used as wainscoting, outdoor bars, chicken coops. It has the old timey look. Kind of like what I'm trying to do.

Enjoyment Center today. Very windy, and beautiful temperatures, weather wise. Will be almost 80 soon.

I’ve been working on an inside project the last few weeks. Remodeling about 60% of the basement to turn it into a nice workout room. Hopefully be done in next two weeks. Been a part time thing because they still want me to go to work in order to receive my pay check.   And stuff for wife, kids, dogs, horses, barn cats, chickens, etc.

But, anywho. We will move workout equipment down there that my son and I found, bought, and temporarily set up in the attached garage a few months back. Need our garage back for vehicles before weather goes cold!

It's funny in a way. How many old barns were torn down or burned down over the years just to get rid of them... Now if you can find some old beams or siding from one you could make a small fortune selling reclaimed lumber.

Removing the basement center load bearing wall was a job in itself. I built a temporary wall on this side first. 37B1D231-72AA-4E40-9900-D9FF6A84BC22.jpeg 9A6813DE-1A4E-427B-BD69-948108C3A871.jpeg
Then from the other side I brought in three LVL or glue-lam beams. FB55B08D-0D58-4017-941C-A5C17BE572F8.jpeg
Next was the temporary wall on this side. D759024F-982E-4F83-8791-900E0CD8A26D.jpeg

And then the removal of the center load bearing wall, installing the beams and forming one, then removed the temporary walls! Hello larger room!

My son helped me move beams in and then set them in place. Besides that I’ve been doing everything myself. I have moved some electrical and plumbing and have a little more to do. Sheet rock is being done a little at a time. Always interesting when electrical and plumbing involved!:loco:

You still don't have to go far to see an old barn just waiting for something to knock one support over and the whole thing will topple sideways. You can't go near them due to liability concerns.

Good job. Hope you will be able to get that ceiling up as high as you can.

Absolutely, there's plenty of them around dilapidated and barely standing. If I ever had the chance to grab some lumber from one I'd jump at the opportunity. A lot of those old barns were built using trees that were felled on-site, so there could be ANY kind of wood in them. Big Chestnut beams, Tulip Poplar, White Oak, Yellow Pine, etc. Great stuff to work with.

We did a wall to wall rip out and do over in our place Same situation as you have with the cement knee wall. Only I have a still I bean as a center support. Floor joist attached right to it. Iron support post in the walls. I don't know what you are going to use for flooring. I used ceramic tile. Love it. Easy care. Only use small area carpets that I can roll up and toss whenever.

Thank you my friend. The height from the concrete floor to the underside of floor joist is 8’. There was an old drop ceiling at 7’ that hid all electrical and plumbing. That is now in the dump. Well, metal is recycled and panels are in the dump. After all re-routing is done I will be able to sheet rock to the underside of the floor joist everywhere except where the main heat pipe runs are. They will be left there for now. Old grey insulation to be stripped off of them, and new, much thicker and effective, white insulation added.

I helped my buddy out a couple hours this am. We rehung the existing gutters up over the porch after he reshingled that area. Pretty easy work, but impossible to do by yourself. It's a 32' section with 8' long ends, shaped like a "c". The gutters are finally sloped properly. The downspouts are all hooked up too as my buddy got the right downspout adapter. All good.

So it's looking like he'll be able to get to my house to help me on my shed on Saturday.

Been wondering, how old is you son? Thinks it's great that the two of you work out together.
