I felled this 22" dbh white oak today. It died this summer. Stihl MS461 for the felling, MS361 for bucking and Kubota L3710 for skidding. I should get a couple decent saw logs for lumber and a whole lot of firewood.
Don't forget to get a little smoking wood from it too. I just used some last night. Not bad tasting wood smoke on a good steak.
I also took the dead standing red oak recently, bigger than the white oak but not quite as straight and has a little rot. Should still get a bunch of great lumber and plenty of firewoods.
Today was my final day of staycation, so I wanted to get the lumber logs from the oak trees bucked, skidded and endsealed. Of course, it took way longer than planned - actually finished up under the lights of my tractor. Each tree yielded five logs, 8' 6" long. Should be just a little shy of 1000 bd-ft. The 'bota and the saws performed perfectly. I'll harvest the tops for firewood later this fall.
