I noticed just putting the angle braces on the left and center bay really stiffened up the structure. I'll do that for the right bay too. I will work on the braces in the upper corners this week yet.
My buddy and I were talking about boxing these edges outside of the 4x4's overhanging the outsides on the top of the roof just under the purlins. See the close up pic. Do you think it's necessary? After looking at more pictures of other people's steel roofed sheds, it doesn't look like that will be necessary. I already added another purlin on each roof than the math said it needed, with 6 instead of 5. Maybe just add a 2x4 piece under each purlin overhang the tall way ( making a T if viewed from the end?) to give it more bracing?
That brings up a point...I think I would put a few extra screws in the metal all around the perimeter...just some insurance to make sure the wind doesn't rip it loose starting from the edge working in...
I don't think I need to do the 2x4 "T's" under the overhangs, but I might do that anyways. I certainly don't need to box the overhangs in.
Ok, did a bit of work before it got dark. I put up the Tee's on the end of the purlins. Well 2 of the three ends of purlins so far. I also added some braces made of 2x4 scraps that go between the double roof beams and the roof joists. Nailed and screwed together they really added some rigidity. I've got a couple of evenings of odds and ends that I can do on my own before my buddy comes over to help get the third roof structure up, and all the steel roofing up. I don't want to have to waste any time when I can get him here. Picked up a few 16' 2x6's for free the other day. Yeah, 16' long boards in a 5.5' bed is tricky. Had to use the tie down points in the bed with ratchet straps and I cut a couple to 10' first. Those on the bottom helped essentially make a longer bed. Unless I want to rip a couple of those 16' 2x6's into 12' 2x4's, I still need to buy 2 or 3 of those 12' 2x4's. I really don't want to deal with that, so I'll suck it up and buy them.
Have you ever seen the bed extenders that go into the receiver hitch and look like a letter T. https://www.etrailer.com/Truck-Bed-...MIsdSNyoaC7AIVFbbICh1itg_oEAQYBCABEgJNE_D_BwE
Lol, yes I've seen those. I didn't have one, and I typically bring the trailer to haul long stuff. Gotta get creative some times.
Got a little more done tonight. All the Tee's are on the purlins that are up. I added more bracing up on the roof joists, and a couple of 2x6 wall braces. I put the 2x6's on the walls with the tops of the boards at 5' high because 5' is about the height that stacks start to tip over, and that's a beefy brace. I can also tie into the center of the roof joist with a beam vertically. It's surely not necessary, but I might do it. Aside from a few 2x4's, I'll be planning on using thinner boards to make the walls. I'm ready for my buddy to come over and help me with the roof joists for the third bay, and then get the metal roofing on all bays.
So close! Random but have you ever read the frugalwoods site? The dude has your woodshed, except it's finished!
