... according to my serial number its 13 years old. I'm trying to figure out why sometimes I have hot hot water and sometimes have luke warm water...I've tried to google it. but not really giving me what I want. My hot water heater sits in the basement. No i haven't flushed it or drained it, probably should, don't know if I could at this point? Is sediment a major factor or should I be looking at something else? I've seen answers from dip tube, to a thermal couple, to dust/air flow issues. Anything that sticks out that I should definitely check into? before I head into the land of looking at replacement....
Do you hear a lot of banging around in the heater when you turn a hot faucet on? You might have a dome of calcium at the bottom. Does your hot water pressure change when you run it a bit?
Maybe modern heaters...I'm used to seeing 30 YO electric heaters though...we have one at work that is at least 40 YO! I need to check it out better, it looks like its easily from the 70's
I'd probably just replace it. But ima plumber... Don't spend too much time or money on a 13yo water heater! I've seen 20-30 yo tanks also, but NOT often. I replaced a leaking 6 yo electric tank for my neighbors parents. Was 6 years 9 months old and had a 6 year warranty.
The water heater that I replaced this one with was a 1976 Kenmore. I still remember it... It went out on Christmas Eve day...
Wow! You've got great water that comes into your house then. Is it well water? I used to work for my Dad at his plumbing and boiler shop. The city where it was located had horrible water. City, town , well, all had so much crap in our that a water heater would be calciumed up in 4-5 years and most gas heaters would rupture from the bottom due to a calcium block/ dome not letting the heat get into the water. You might have a faulty thermostat. Try turning it up or down a little temp wise and see if that does anything.
I've seen that too. We had one at the old cottage that was at least 30 yrs old, and the only time it gave issues was when someone would turn on that breaker when the water was off and drained in winter/ spring before the well was turned on again. Then again, that water up in the Northwoods is some of the absolute best tasting well water you can ever have.
Nope just city water... I’ll try that. But I guess I’ll start looking at replacing and getting that plastic lines (can’t remember what they are called) put into the house....
Yep... My brain was just fried that night... had been a long hard week... Been thinking about doing it anyways... Been looking and thinking of how to do it this winter... But need to free up some space in the basement now... Thats funny...
