IS THERE ANYTHING MORE ANNOYING ON THIS EARTH THAN TO TRY AND RECYCLE PALLET WOOD WITHOUT BREAKING HALF OF THE BOARDS??????? I mean I have some patience but this is really driving me up the wall......straight up!!! I'm trying to do my part here and reuse all that I can. But gimme a break for pete's sake!!!!!!!!!
This will make quick work of those pallet boards if you want to reuse them. Vestil Deluxe Pallet Buster with 41 in. Handle-SKB-DLX - The Home Depot You can buy the tool with no handle for about half that price at various online stores...just add a piece of 1" pipe for a handle
Thanks for that. I'll see how the next load goes. I need like 40,000 boards to finish up so it may be worth it.
Whatever breaks I'm giving to my neighbor who has been slacking in the kindling chopping dept and is very low!
I was exaggerating just a little bit but it's closer to 40,000 than 1! I'm making raised garden beds........Here's my diagram and the first one I made so far. First one I had 48" pallet boards...but now I've only got 40"....so I cut them down to 32" and will have 2 joints to make 96". The sketchup diagram is not perfect but close enough for my purposes at the moment. 2 x 4 8 fir stud at home depot is $6.98! What the heck! I ain't buying nothing if I can do without it. The boards are 5/8" thick, the longer 48" ones were 3/4" but don't have more of those. What I do have is a neighbor that I helped out (lugged two HUGE maple rounds out of his house) and he's a truck driver so he can give me unlimited pallets. It's awesome!
Nice!!! Always good to get along with the neighbors if possible. Mine has given me at least 2 cords of wood, and a bunch of pt lumber from his deck rebuild that I used on my woodshed extension
I get along with all my other neighbors. This neighbor is the one that has a problem with me - I let their transgressions slide multiple times........I would have happily given them some wood...but I don't think they want any lmfao. It's funny that they complained about my firepit......when they have a firepit smack dab in the middle of their backyard. Hypocrites!
Is the pallet wood treated with anything? If not, they will rot pretty quick. I was very lucky to get some cedar off an old structure to make the outside of my gardens.
It's been heat treated. Wouldn't use pressure treated for veggie planting. It will sit on top of a bed of wood chips. I am going to line the inside with landscape fabric and was considering putting gravel underneath the frame of the box (not the entire bed). I think it should be ok for a while. We shall see. I don't have the budget to spend on buying cedar planks so I will make do with what I have. If it rots in 3 years I'm ok with that. I figured since this is my first attempt at a garden I should minimize the $$$ and see how it goes first. If I need to upgrade, I will.
You will get a couple of seasons out of them before they rot out. The average pallet is very low grade wood.
