Tree guy cut down a 10"ll limb that was 30 feet long. It was completely dead - no leaves at all. The white oak is 75 tall and the rest of it looks fine.

I split the first found I got and saw this.

Anyone know what it is? Oak wilt?

    Thanks in advance.

Should I toss those pieces? Burn the white stuff off? Or just leave it?

Also some dry rot in the sap wood and evidence of boring inside the split.

Wondering if I should keep these or just toss them all. IMG_20200920_110817.jpg IMG_20200920_110815.jpg

I see that white stuff in dead oak a lot. I’m not sure what it is but it will dry out and be long gone pretty quick once split and stacked properly.

Leave it. That little amount means nothing. Still excellent firewood.

IMO its looks like the tree had a partial fracture that was starting to die off. I wouldnt worry about it. Keep it dry once split and it should minimize more fungi.

Do you know why the mushroom was the life of the party?
because he was a fungi! (fun guy)

I've seen that or similar to that in a red oak. Inch or so thick. Did NOT smell good.
In a damaged piece. Just some wood decay fungus. With its growing conditions compromised it will cease to be.

I agree with Brad. Just looks like water, insects and fungus infiltrating a fracture.

Thanks. I found 2 black scarab beetles and killed 'em. I sent the video to all my wood loving friends. Lmfao still. That might be the best video on the interwebs.
